I Have Caught Cvs And Other Pharmacies Lying About Not Having Oxycodone In Stock, Shortage 2012 (Page 12)
UpdatedWell today I officially caught a cvs here in Ga lying to me. A friend of mine filled his Meds yesterday. I go in, having a history with cvs, a recent one, and am immediately lied to. The pharmacist comes over and tells me they haven't had them in stock for months, without looking at his book or computer. At this point I stated an employee I know the name of told me shipment came in Thursday. He lied again. I then told him friend had filled yesterday morning. He said it was impossible. I then said I saw the bottle with my own eyes, it had their address on it, and even told him what brand they had since my friend just filled his there. Pharmacist lied to me yet again. I then asked him why he wad lying to me and that I am tired of being treated like a criminal because I am 30 with a handicapped tag and a four page long mri report for my neck, mid, and lower back. I just found out I have central and foramina stenosis in my lower back, yea!! He then asked me if I had been having trouble filling. I said yes, it seems a lot of pharmacies are lying about not having it in stock. I said it is easy to tell on how they look at you, treat you, and if they check their logbook which is required for all schedule two Meds. I then gave him a chance to not lie and said "so you mean you filled the last of your stock yesterday." Since he lied to me again I decided it was time to call his district manger. The info I told him was correct but he decided to lie so its not my fault if he gets fired. U am going to let his district manager know the whole story, and let them know that if something is not done I will contact the news about discrimination against a legit pain patient for them not to get their Meds and have a normal life. They won't want bad press that is for sure, esp since I have a handicapped tag. I am in their system for filling the exact Meds I brought in, they have my discount card on file also, and my whole family uses their pharmacy so these ate the thongs I will tell district. Any other pharmacies who lie I will do the same thing to. So it seems the shortage going on here in Georgia and Florida are manipulated by the pharmacies and the distributors. Mckesson isn't shipping them out to rite aid, wal mart, sams, and Target. They are afraid of getting fined like a few years ago or getting in trouble like cardinal, cvs, walgreens, publix, and krogers distributor. Cardinal is still shipping from Mississippi and north Carolina, but not from Florida atm. The rest of the country is not having any problems, just Florida and Georgia. Since I have a lawsuit going against Allstate from my car accident(not my fault) and we are going after a doc who read someone else's mri to make his conclusion and type a bogus report to my insurance so they will not reimburse me anymore, we ate going after him for slander or defimation of character since he wrote I sell my Meds, maybe I can add cvs for pain and suffering and descrimination. This is absolutely rediculous these days. Sorry for the rant but people selling them ate making a killing these days and legit patients are going broke from price gouging or gas prices just so we can live a somewhat normal life. Makes no sense how out system works.
No but you find out after spending nights walking the house or running a hot sower over your spine in pain. I am a patient and an addiction specialist. Do you know the pain med abuse is less then 2% of people in need. The 98% that dont abuse. Gov states i am in criminal justice. You can google these findings. CVS and Walgreens are hurting the good honest 98% who are in pain. They and the FDA should be exposed.
Patrick,
I was just wondering what other things did you try other then pain meds. I myself have Interstitial cystitis and it has really stopped my life literally. not much of a social life and unable to work. its horrible to feel this pain all of the time. I really hope that one day doctors do find a cure and soon. I'm very interested to hear what has worked and what has failed for you. I have to say when I take pain meds it helps somewhat but also sometimes seems to irritate my bladder( it causes dehydration, which makes me need to drink water which then causes the need for urination ever 5 mins sometimes even more frequent then that) its just a damn sick cycle
@SCOTT--You missed the point entirely. Read the post that says only 2% are drug abusers, 98% really are in pain. You didn't mention if you take meds for pain. I pray you never understand that need because it's as close to hell as you can get.
I totally agree with you. I live in central Fl. and I waste a full tank of gas in one day and maybe will get my pain med. filled. I know people who can't get around as easy as I do and have the same liars (Judges) tell us they never have stocked that med. I have a friend who got his script filled at walgreens the day before I tried to fill mine (Identical medication). He told me they don't even stock that medication. You know the rest.
NOTE: This is after I asked my pharm. "is there a different med. I can take that provides the same effect as 20mg. oxycodone ir that doesn't have all the legal ties and propaganda that is currently pushed on ALL who have been prescribed oxycodone by a duly licensed physician?" After recommending "morphine and fentynl "which I quickly exclaimed ,"these are to strong for a working man and I also I have to drive!";he said"Opana is somewhat new and chemically related to oxycodone, you probably won't be allergic to it ,and in reference to your headaches,it should be as effective if not more than oxy."Anyway,my doctor agreed (he didn't like prescribing oxycodone either);and it works better, less drowsiness, less fatigue, less lethargy and laziness.I thought finally after two and half years of gas eating, optimal stress producing(although non criminal activity.......I felt like a criminal, was gazed upon by the powers that be as a criminal;not to mention the the soul piercing looks and incredible seemingly guiltless LIES attached to a profession that was established in TRUTH."The same man who helped me ,was also the same one who LIED about not even stocking this medication.$160.00 for 60 10mg. ir tabs at walgreens.....a simple lie raised the price to $360.00......2 times the price!!!Well done MR. professional med man!!! although I don't agree,I can empathize with those who have friends or relatives who have the meds people in pain are seeking and have been shot down repeatedly by the established medical administration,if they should break the law and have to defile there own conscience(which they have to live with, more importantly your personal relationship with CHRIST JESUS)by obtaining relief illegally rather than through the medical establishment which worked so well for many generations. We all know there are junkies and alchoholics, that is why we have doctors to determine the cause of an ailment, and prescibe(if necessary)the proper meds for treatment. What someone does to themselves in secret we have no power other than prayer.
Good for you!!! I live in Fla, & the SAME thing is going on, only here, the pharmacists will tell you that you have to tell your Dr. To lower the quanity, my husband was getting 180 30mg roxis,& the pharmacist told him he had to go dwn to 120! He was getting 270 methadone, they told him he had to go dwn to 210,, now, mind you, hes BEEN going to this certain pharm for YEARS! OH, but thats not it, they THEN proceeded to tell him we lived to far from the store,& now had to move within a 30 mile radius from them or they were going to drop him!! We had NO CHOICE, we had to move, the pharmacys here play "god" & if one looks crooked at you,& doesnt like you they mark you in the computer,so it only takes one pharmacist thats havin a bad day, & you are ruined from every single one of the same stores. My husband is no junkie, he goes to one place but boy oh boy
Do the pharmacists really put notes in your chart? - and then you get black balled at all of the rest of their stores? So if one Walgreen's pharmacist thinks you're on too much medication, he can put a note in your file and get you blocked from all Walgreen's pharmacies? Wow...
I understand the need for control on these medications and Florida swung too far to the left (or whatever direction) by letting all the pain mills pop up. Now it's rapidly swinging to the other side and people with legitimate conditions that warrant these medications are having an incredible time getting them filled. Once a physician determines that your condition warrants a certain medication, no pharmacist should have any right to deny it to you.
Not only that but there's no consistency whatsoever. Some pharmacists will pull an e-force report, some won't. Some consider 120 controlled pills a month too much, others consider 60 too much, while others might consider any to be too much. And they do this with little to no knowledge of your particular condition. In other words, they have absolutely no business making determinations on what medication a patient should receive, period!
Unless a prescription is an obvious forgery or a physician is known to be running a rogue pain clinic or something of that nature these pharmacists playing god with patient medication should be stopped. The law should be written so that they have a responsibility to keep fraudulent or forged prescriptions from being filled. Other than that, if a physician with a valid DEA number prescribes a medication to a patient, they should be required by law to fill it. End of story.
It's absolutely outrageous that pharmacists now have the power to deny medication to patients and it's flat out wrong.
Vitamin D3 in as much as 10000 units was recommended by my pain physician and for me it helps. Another help is Cymbalta, an antidepressant that is also advertised on TV as a treatment for pain. It is quite expensive at about $6 per capsule, but I get mine free from the Eli Lilly Patient Assistance Program. I am uninsured since my husband of 20 years and the father of my 3 great adult children chose drinking over family, married his AA girlfriend and started drinking again after 12 years sober. My new husband (thanks be to God) has had me designated as a dependent in the VA system. Let's hope they help because $300 per month for pain treatment hurts!! That's why it angers me how the prices are so high for the doctor and the Percocet mostly because of those who doctor shop and get pills to abuse them. What can ya do? Still, I am very blessed and life is good. No other complaints!
Amen "Just Me" Everyone is too busy arguing with each other rather than sending their complaints to where it could make a difference. UM I'm sick of you people making it hard for me because I have this this and this, and you have this! It don't matter if you think yours is worse, you don't know. The point is, why does it matter what anyone takes if it helps them have a way of life, it's not like you can go in to a store and pick it off the shelf you need a DR. diagnosis, and that's all that should matter. People argue with the folks responsible for this BS, rather if it's the government, DEA, FBI, FDA, or your local Pharmacy. My philosophy is why does anyone care what the other takes, I'm sure most people posting are all big boys and girls!
Please send complaints to your state board of pharmacy, and to corporate headquarters. Most large pharmacies don't like complaints. If you have a pharmacist who lies, or treats you like an addict, file a complaint.
If a pharmacy gets enough complaints against a pharmacist, they will fire him...
Don't put up with pprofessionals who lie, or don't do their jod.

If u have a legit prescription they cannot say u can't have it. I don't care what u look like coming in.
If only that were true. In Florida, a pharmacist can refuse to fill a controlled substance prescription for ANY reason they choose. It's not right... but it's reality.
You are not alone - I am hoping enough of us can file a legal suit for discrimination, interfering with our right to legally prescribed medications, all that. PS - if you can do mail order, discuss with your dr and you will be able to get your meds, including brand name CII drugs which Florida pharmacies say they don't carry anymore. If you get generic percocet (made by Activa) be careful - it will make you sick. Bad day for me today but just wanted to give you something to check out.
To Chris:
From a sincere and genuine place I really do have empathy for you. However, while I don't know you I sense similarities. No offense intended. Throughout my 20's I suffered from chronic Kidney Stones. Legitimately some of the worst pain you can experience. It was constant battle of, will this one pass, will I end up in the ER, will I miss class or work almost everyday ??this?? week. Getting potent pain meds was my really my first patient/pain relief experience or need for it. 10 years later I know I'm a drug addict. I never set out saying "I totally want to get addicted to opiates, open up the doorway to other drug use, destroy my family's respect for me, and relinquish a well earned and good paying career. I get it. Without sounding arrogant I have always placed a priority on manners and impression. I liked dressing well, presenting a polished appearance, education, and just knowledge and learning in general. I was never snotty about it. I never thought it made me better than anyone, but I did get more respect and helpful attitudes within many areas of my life. Once I started to let myself go, look like u didn't give a s*** about my appearance, and most importantly became a d*** who talked about my rights and my entitlements. Addiction is the human body's physical and sometimes emotional and mental need, craving, I feel like I'm dying without it feelings. Suffering from addiction and being an addict are two different things. I don't mean to chalk it up to "life isn't fair!" I reiterate I truly believe there is a genuine need for you needing pain relief, buts let's be honest a percentage of that is it feels good to be high. People who are all high and mighty, about calling the media, legal suits, pharajicts loosing their jobs is fiending. You will never win going that route. Change your approach to not even give the potential for your behavior to be seen as sketchy. It works a lot better and you're not BSing yourself anymore. You being WAAAAY too Defensive!!!
First of all, you're addressing "Chris" as if he'll read this when his original post is well over two years old. He has never posted a follow up comment so there's no reason to expect he ever will. That said, your assumptions infuriate me. Though most people make the same mistake, you assume that his experience with pain medicine will be exactly what yours was. Simply because this was your experience with opiates does not make it true for everyone else. People take a different approach toward medicine and it's incredibly naive (not to mention a little arrogant) to assume that the entire population will have the exact experience you did. Therefore, nudging him to try and force an admission that part of the motivation for obtaining this medicine is to feel high not only shows your ignorance (with regard to chronic pain), it’s completely off base. You need a little schooling so I'm going to give you some right now.
First of all, you probably know this but kidney stones cause what is known as acute pain. As much as kidney stones hurt (and I know they do) the pain eventually subsides with or without treatment. Chronic conditions that cause pain rarely subside completely but, rather, fluctuate in their intensity causing the need for long term medication. Acute ailments do not require round the clock treatment for any length of time. This creates two conditions. One, if you abstain from taking opiates outside of when you need them your tolerance remains low giving you the maximum effect the opiates can have on your reward centers. In other words, you get a serious buzz when you do take them. Second, it gives you the false impression that others (that may be taking them for chronic pain) also experience the same effects - hence your accusation that "Chris" was, in part, seeking to feel high.
Further, your assumption that everyone taking these medicines will eventually start dressing like they don't care about themselves and lose the respect of family and friends is also considerably off the mark. You see, your description is from that of an addict. There is an entire population of patients that take pain medicine for chronic pain that do none of the things you assume that everyone else does. In fact, those of us that take it for pain on a regular basis have long left the buzz effect behind. That's right. Not even the tiniest hint of euphoria or a buzz because, for one, our bodies and brain are used to it. And two, when you have severe pain, the medication goes to work relieving your symptoms instead of making you feel high.
So why am I picking on you? Clearly you said you were trying to be sincere but you are actually spreading the very same myths that so many people do when it comes to chronic pain patients. You are far from being along in your grossly inaccurate assumptions about patients that take pain medicine on a regular basis for chronic health conditions. There's the employers, neighbors, pharmacists, and physicians (yes, even physicians) that all make similar assumptions about them being high when that’s the last thing a chronic pain patient is thinking about. In addition, it's also people like you that have caused those of us that really need this medication to have to jump through hoops and go to great lengths in order to get it. It's being abused by so many people that it makes it incredibly hard for legitimate patients to obtain it.
Instead of making asinine assumptions that only apply to yourself (and other addicts), why don't you do everyone that needs this medicine a favor and get educated about it? Then you can start spreading some truth instead of a bunch of BS that amounts to nothing more than your own personal experience that may or may not apply to the population of pain patients as a whole. My fellow chronic pain patients and I would be greatly appreciative.
Actually, they dont have to tell you what they have or supply you with any drug.... its the pharmacists licence and he can do as he or she feels and there isnt jack sh!p you can do about it! IT IS THE LAW! So you can come on these sites and whine but your time will be better spent going to another pharmacy.......Im on Adderall 20mg 3x a day for years and know the law......you can't do anything about it....I will give you a tip tho..... stay away from pharmacies that are near hospitals due to the fact they are only allowed to dispense a certain amount of x,y,and z a month by the FDA....and will save their stocks for their customers that get more than just one or two meds filled there as to keep their customers happy and supplied. Find one store, bring all your meds to it, and always get them all filled, not just x or y and you will find a better outcome as you are now a customer and not SHOPPING FOR DRUGS!!!!
My cvs in Charlotte nc did this. It's a new company policy that each cvs store can only give out xxx pills a month... Then they refuse to fill any other oxy orders till the next. Walmart is worse. Anytime u give them an oxy script they call your dr. So u are screwed on weekends. So if u must go to cvs get for oxy filled on the first few days of the month and you will get them fine ;)
It's junkies and addicts that ruin it for legit ppl. People who go to multi DRs and multi pharmacies thaat abuse is. They also get others to pick up their Rx so their drivers license does get flagged for excessive drug use (that's how ppl by pass going to multi pharmacies). It's the name and DL number that goes into the national db. These ppl are why it's so hard for us legit ppl
So if someone is a using the system STOP.... yiu ruin it for ppl who need it.. Meh. They will probably od someday and will no longer be an issue
I do NOT consider someone on opiates for legit reasons who are addicted addicts
Best place to get pain meds filled: Walgreens.
Actually if a pharmacy has the meds, nothing wrong with the Rx, you aren't flagged in any database, you can pay for it.. It most states, they MUST legally fill your Rx.
Here in NC. A pharmacy can put limits on how many pills of each class 2 pills they sell per month
Not sure where you live, Dave, but the system in Florida (known as e-force) does not use a person's driver license to identify and report activity on the controlled substance database. Yes, you must present identification when picking up a controlled substance but the database stores patients by their name and date of birth. In fact, I pick up controlled medication for my wife on occasion and the pharmacist at Walgreen's accepts my Florida license to pick up her medicine. Using a driver license would not present a valid solution for all scenarios as there are a significant number of people that do not have one and are using some other type of identification (usually a Florida Identification Card rather than a license).
Your comment about Walmart is interesting as I've found them to be the most lax when it comes to dispensing controlled medication. Several times they didn't even ask me for my ID and other times they filled it way too fast to have done a check on my e-force report. It doesn't concern me when they do as I've only seen one physician for pain medicine in the last three years and he's a board certified rheumatologist.
Walgreen's seems to be one of the toughest and, in my experience, has the most inconsistent pharmacists. Some are polite and professional while many others are rude, unhelpful, and act like they don't enjoy their job in the least. Sad too because Walgreen's pays their pharmacists very well and especially those that serve as the pharmacy manager in addition to their other duties.
As tough as many people have it now and struggle to obtain many of life's necessities, it's disheartening to see someone such as a Walgreen's pharmacist making between $65K and $100K a year with full benefits acting like such a disgruntled as* but such is life I suppose. I'm not implying they didn't earn it as becoming a licensed pharmacist is exceedingly difficult from what I understand. However, that doesn't detract from it being a secure and very well paying job.
Would putting on a smile for your customers once in a while be too much to ask?
OMG THIS HAPPENS EVERY month to me and I just don't know what to do I'm in Montgomery County Maryland And every cvs says the same thing or some places say they not taking patient for that medicine" WTF" KINDA STUFF is that???
That may be true in most states. However, in Florida, pharmacists have broad discretion with regard to filling controlled medicine prescriptions. They have no legal obligation to fill anyone's script and can deny someone for any reason at all without informing the patient why.
