It can really vary from person to person. The modern method to taper off of any medication is usually to have the person gradually lower their dose while skipping days, at the same time, so you lower it, while spacing your doses further and further apart.
The FDA does warn that both of these medications carry the risk of being habit forming, and may cause withdrawal effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, fever, chills, vomiting, and tremors.
