I Don't Have Insurance And Need A Strong Pain Medicine
UpdatedHi, I'm currently taking oxycodone 10 mg 4x a day. I need something stronger and something for break through pain. I don't have insurance so I need to do this cost wise since I'm paying out of pocket. I've taken dilaudid 4 mg with morphine 10 mg before and it did nothing for my pain. I've also taken methadone as well. I have bulging and herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, scoliosis, pinched nerves, fibromyalgia, spondylosis, and possibly spinal stenosis. I need another MRI. How can I tell my pm doctor to increase the Mg's of pain medicine without sounding like a drug seeker? Or give me something stronger I can pay for?

I'm willing to pay the pharmacy $5 extra for each pill they fill for me but rite aid didn't go for that or CVS. Is their anyone near me that knows any pharmacy in Cornelia Georgia that will fill my oxycodone 15 mg? I don't know much at all about that territory and they will not fill different county prescription from 2 hrs away from the doctor who wrote it for me and plus it's a damn holiday so I'm screwed either way. For 25 years I have had chronic Tourette syndrome but not the sounds I've got neck jerking. It said to be a rare case because of me ticking/ jerking my neck every which way EVERYDAY OF MY LIFE FROM THE TIME I AWAKE IN THE MORNINGS UNTIL I FALL ASLEEP AT NIGHT WITH STRONG KNOCKOUT SLEEP MEDS. 24/7 NECK JERKING HAS OVER 25 YEARS HAS CAUSED ME ALMOST 12 DIFFERENT DIAGNOSIS FROM MY NECK AND DOWNWARD. Please someone refer me to good pharmacy around that will fill my pain meds or one that will understand. I will pay $5 extra for each tablet I get filled. That's how desperate I am with getting rid of my pain and finding a good pharmacy that understands me and that will help me and one that's not out of my meds. Thanks
@surikitty,
Patient's can only say so much to persuade a doctor to prescribe more narcotics. From my observations I think they will do whatever is morally sound based on their belief & perspective in accordance with your diagnostics/MRI's, etc. Opening up and being honest and straight forward with your doctor is probably the best approach in my opinion though. That way you can at least say you tried, but not to go too overboard with your requests or they will probably lean towards a more conservative approach. Then again their level of leniency might still surprise you. But the only way to find out is to take that step and speak from the heart about how you feel.
Something else to keep in mind moving forward is that taking more and more pain meds can turn into a double edge sword, because eventually all the higher doses also become null (just like the amount you're taking right now) as one's tolerances continues to build with each progressive dose. The other main concern here is the potential for serious withdrawals if you ever had to come off one medication or another too quickly. Not to mention a pharmacies willingness to fill such prescriptions in the first place (using the situation in Florida as an example - where patients on here report having issues even filling low dose narcotics). And I don't say this to discourage you in anyway. It's really just something to be aware of when you have to rely on these pharmacies to cater to your unique individual needs.
As far as the fibromyalgia is concerned, I've recently been taking a dietary supplement known as D-Ribose, which research shows is supposed to be good for treating fibromyalgia symptoms specifically at: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17109576. That may be worth looking into?
Hope this helps and I wish you good luck in getting the kind of treatment you deserve!
