Someone that me and my husband got into a fight w called dyfs on us and children. I then got my script stolen. I was without my script for 2 wks i got a new script and the next day had to take a drug test and they said i came back positive for morphine. Y? Is it possible to be a false positive cuz i didnt do anything!

Work in a detox facility. Recently, a client came in claiming dependency upon both heroin and Klonopin. The drug test showed the client as being + for opiates, but negative for benzos. So, he was given methadone but nothing for the Klonopin withdrawal. I had a fight with the nurses; the drug test for benzos we use tests for oxazepam, a common benzo metabolite. However, oxazepam is NOT a metabolite of Klonopin, Ativan, or Xanax - the 3 most-widely prescribed benzos. As they were about to "discipline me" because I am not "a nurse", the client went into seizures from the Klonopin withdrawal. He was sent to a hospital - the tests came back positive for clonazepam metabolites. Needless to say, I didn't get "disciplined" and the facility has taken a different approach to detecting and monitoring benzo withdrawal. These cheap drug tests SUCK - they're not accurate and not worth the money it costs to make them.

Many testing facilities have very poor quality control standards. Several have out dated reagent chemicals, poor technician training, not to mention if the lab doesn't know how to read the results, the testee can be screwed. Many opiods break down in the system and test positive for the morphine metabolite. Especially something as benign as codeine will show up in the system as morphine. There's also a big problem with chain of custody. How do you know who had your sample? Where did it go from there? There's too many problems with these testing labs and their lack of training, using long ago expired reagents, ect. I hope it works out for you. Good luck

Do you know what type of test was used? Was it one of the dip tests that they do right in the office, or was it one where the sample was actually sent off to a lab?
If is was one of the in office tests, then the less expensive, non-certified ones have been known show false positives anywhere from 4 to 50% of the time.
