I Accidently Bit Into 30 Mg Morphine Sulf Er

I accidentally bit into my morning dose of 30mg morphine sulf. Er at 7am.. it is going on 11:30am. Do I need to worry about overdose?

Hello, Sunnydaze59! How are you? Did you experience any adverse effects?

If it is the dose you normally, I doubt you'd experience much of a problem, unless you completely chewed up the tablet.

The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Getting more of it, at once, than you should may result in more severe side effects being experienced and overdose is possible, if you're not opiate tolerant.

When unsure, it is always best to contact poison control, or your doctor.

If you're able to bite into your tablet, you aren't taking your medications properly. For future reference, you should place it as far back on your tongue as possible, just short of gagging and swallow it immediately with a full 8 ounce glass of water, unless you're on fluid restriction.
