I Want To Change From Methadone Oxycontin For Pain

I am prescribed 40 mg. daily Methadone for the pain associated with having Type II Trigeminal Neuralgia. For two months, it worked well, but now, only my breakthrough medication, Roxicodone (Oxycodone with non APAP) 15 mg. 4 x per day, is the only thing which stops the pain. I was advised by a friend that if I take my entire dose of Methadone in the morning, I could just use my Roxicodone at night, that this may work better, and I would have less breakthrough pain. I have been doing this, but I am afraid that I am just upping my tolerance to Methadone by giving my body 40 mg. all at once. Plus, I'd like to change my Methadone to OxyContin, to see if it works better. Can anyone tell me what an equivalent dose of OxyContin would be to 40 mg. of Methadone?

The equivalent dosage of Oxycontin in a day would be 100mgs.

However, it may not be easy to just make a quick switch, because the Methadone is well known to cause severe withdrawals, even when replaced with a different narcotic.

Thus, you may need to gradually taper down on it and slowly increase the dose of the Oxycontin to avoid the worst of the withdrawal effects.
