Hypothyroidism, Levothyroxine

I went to the doctor after he ran some blood work on me, he told me that my thyroid is sluggish and prescribed me 50mcg of levothyroxine. Does this mean that I have Hypothyroidism? My mother has it and she told me that I am at risk for having it as well.I have a lot of the symptoms and that was why I went to the doctor in the first place but he doesn't explain things at all and I have been looking for a new doctor but have had no luck. Please help! Thank you in advance.

Yes, that would be hypothyroidism, or on the verge of developing it. But it never hurts to double check by asking your doctor to be specific, or consulting another for a second opinion.

The FDA lists the typical side effects of Levothyroxine as possibly including nausea, dizziness, hair loss, mood swings and weight changes.
