Hyoscyamine For Irritable Bowel Syndrome
UpdatedMy doctor diagnosed me with IBS, but I don't have diarrhea or constipation; just pain on the upper right side of the rib cage. I'm on Hystomine and the pain is still there. How long does it take for complete relief?

Hello, Sandra! How are you doing? Has there been any change?
It can take 4 to 6 weeks for most medications to reach their full level of efficacy in your body, according to the FDA.
Unfortunately, I am not quite certain what medication you are talking about, so I can't be more specific. Can you please post back and clarify? I can't find anything under the name you've provided.
What you eat and drink can also affect IBS, so you may want to make sure you're eating a mild diet.
To Vernon, on the subject of IBS the medicine that I am taking is Hyoscyamine, a generic for Levbid. Still having some discomfort, so do I still give the medicine more time to clear this problem up?
Update: Still have pain from IBS. I switched to Bentyl and don't know if it is working, we will see.
Update: Still have some symptoms of IBS, am on Bentyl and have reduced the pills to 2 a day. Still have discomfort on the right side at waist level. Am I on a journey that will take a long time for it to clear up?
