Hydrocodone Alternatives, Not Nsaids

My doctor moved and after being prescribed 4 hydrocodone 10/325mg a day for 7 years. I'm having the worst time finding a doctor to prescribe it to me again. NSAIDS don't do anything to help. Does anyone know of realistically effective alternatives? Or possibly anyone in the Las Vegas, NV area know a doctor who won't judge me for being in pain and might actually help me? I appreciate any feedback.

Hello, Mandy! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having.

Hydrocodone combinations were changed to schedule 2 drugs last fall, so most doctors will no longer prescribe them. Due to the new directives from the DEA, if you require such a medication for the long-term ongoing treatment of chronic pain, you'll need to see a pain management specialist.

The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Can anyone recommend a good doctor in that area?

Any dr can prescribe hydrocodone or any other drug. It is up to each individual dr if they want to prescribe pain meds to their patients. That said, many drs have decided to not prescribe pain meds to their patients with chronic pain. If you can't find a regular dr who will prescribe you this med, you may want to go to a Pain Management Dr. Any new dr will want to get a copy of your previous medical records. There also is no guarantee that you will be able to find a dr who will rx these meds, even if the dr is a pain dr. It will depend on what your medical records say.
