Hydrocodone Apap Substitute

I am trying to substitute for 10/650 Percocet. When I see my MD soon, I was going to ask for the equivalent Percodan instead ( afraid of liver damage after many years )...will I have problems adjusting and what is Percodan equivalent to (3) 10/650 Percocets day? Also, Is Tramadol the only way to get off this on my own? I hate taking it and have cut dose down over last year very difficult to do.

Have you tried or heard of Suboxone? It is a medication designed to help patients get off of opioid medications.. it can only be prescribed by a psych (with a licence to prescribe suboxone) or an addiction doc. Not that youre addicted.. but generally speaking after years of opioid use, getting off of the med "on your own" (without the help of another med) is a frustrating process

Hi Kay,

Percodan is the same as Percocet, except that Percodan contains Aspirin + Oxycodone and Percocet contains Acetaminophen + Oxycodone.

For some people, the Aspirin works better for them with the Oxycodone to relieve their pain, and for some people the Acetaminophen. Sometimes it also depends on other body conditions, like liver or kidney function or problems, so that can have an effect on what the doc prescribes. That said, the strength is pretty much equal between these two drugs.

Tramadol is one method you can use to help with withdrawals, while CPharm stated Suboxone as another alternative. I would look into the pros and cons of each one and see what you feel more comfortable with taking (in regards to possible side effects).
