Hydrocodone Apap Liquid Same As Robitussen W/ Codiene

apparently Robitussen with codiene not available anywhere with prescription. An adult knows that I have the Hydrocodone Acrtaminophen. Mine was prescribed for acute broncihitus in October. She has been unable to fill the prescription she has for the Robitussen. Is it safe for me to let her have my 3/4 bottle from October????

Hi Lucy,

I checked to see if there are any reactions between the active ingredients in "Hydrocodone Apap" and "Robitussen + Codeine" and my findings state that there are some potentially unsafe interactions. Quoted below are the precautions you should be aware of:

" Central nervous system- and/or respiratory-depressant effects may be additively or synergistically increased in patients taking multiple drugs that cause these effects, especially in elderly or debilitated patients.

During concomitant use of these drugs, patients should be monitored for potentially excessive or prolonged CNS and respiratory depression. Ambulatory patients should be counseled to avoid hazardous activities requiring mental alertness and motor coordination until they know how these agents affect them, and to notify their physician if they experience excessive or prolonged CNS effects that interfere with their normal activities."

That being said, I wouldn't offer any of this to anyone that doesn't already have a script for it. Everyone reacts to medications differently and it's always better to be safe than sorry.

Thanks Jenna, she finally found a pharmacy that could fill the prescription! I did not lend her any of the hydrocodone and have disposed of it. Better safe than sorry.
