Hydrocodone Apap 5 500 Side Effects

My husband has COPD. He was prescribed the Hydrocodone APAP 5 500 by his doctor for back pain. However, 1 pill seems to allow him to breathe better and reduces all his aches and pain (of course). The pill has also allowed him not to have to take his dose of Advair 250/50 at night.
He has less mucous in the morning also. Why is the Hydrocodone 5/500 working like this?

Hydrocodone is actually used in some medications, such as Tussigon and Tussionex, which are liquids, to help aid coughing, because it also has proven action as an antitussive.

It's likely helping to suppress his cough urge and loosen some of the mucous that may cause some of his problems.

I guess it's kind of just an added bonus! :-)

It's also possible that the Acetaminophen in it is helping with some mild inflammation that he may have been experiencing in his airways.
