Can Hydrocodone and Modafinil be taken together?

Hi Fred,

Based on my research there are no drug interactions found between Hydrocodone and Modafinil. This does not necessarily mean no interactions exist, but my sources state that every effort has been made to ensure that the information provided is accurate.

In conclusion, these two medications are regarded as being safe to take together and shouldn't present any problems outside of the normal side effects associated with each medication.

What about Oxycodone (Roxycodone--I should say, without Tylenol) and Modafinil combined? I am taking them both for three years and haven't had a problem. Does anyone have a comment about this. The Roxy is a lot stronger than the Hydrocodone for those who don't know.

Modafinil is an inducer of the P450 liver system, which provides the metabolization and transformation of drugs into other substances. In short, because modafinil induces the same subunits of the P450 that is also responsible for breaking down hydrocodone into its active metabolized ingredient (hydromorphone aka dilaudid). The inducing effects of the modafinil, in turn make hydrocodone, oxycodone and certain others, less effectively potent. This can be a MAJOR problem for people who are needing to be treated with an IR opiate. Solutions are, stop modafinil, or increase your dosage of hydrocodone, oxycodone etc., and by my experience, it will be more than just 1 extra pill. So you'll have to find the right dosage for yourself.
