Hydrocodone Addictive
UpdatedI have been on Hydrocodone for a fractured neck from a motorcycle accident. I am now off after having terrible withdrawal symptoms. This drug is very very addictive and your system will become immune to it very quickly if taken long term. I am now on Ultram which is a form of narcotic but not addictive. Really helps a lot.

Ultram is not really a narcotic, they classify it as one because it is dervice from an Opiate, however its properties are actually those of an antiinflammatory.
And yes. Hydrocodone is very addictive, though it you were taking it as prescribed by your doctor, they should have helped you taper off and minimize the withdrawal effects.
I'm going to respond to Verwon, even though his post is 9 yrs old, just in case someone has the same problem now. There was a drug available to you at the time you stopped taking hydrocodone that relieves opiate withdrawal symptoms completely, called SUBOXONE. It is expensive, but I understand there are generics now. But if you don't have insurance it is still pretty high. I took this drug for almost 3 yrs and can vouch for the fact that it does completely relieve withdrawals. Now, at some point you'll want to get off of the Suboxone, and it's a lot easier to titrate down the dosage of that as opposed to opiates. Your Dr will get sued by someone sooner or later for needlessly causing his patients such suffering. It's a lot of trouble for the Dr to wean someone off a medication, and they need to see more patients instead of spending a few more minutes with you. I don't blame them, Medicare pays pcp's about 20.00 for a visit they bill for 180.00, which I see as reasonable.
