Hydrocodone Acetaminophen And Respiratory Issues?
UpdatedHello,
I have had my wisdom teeth pulled out seven days ago and was given a hydrocodone acetaminophen prescription along with the antibiotics and ibuprofen. It says on the hydrocodone pill bottle that I need to take 1-2 pills every six hours for pain. Well, being the i**** that I am, I take one whenever the pain hits me and the time intervals are greater than six. I woke up at two in the morning with pain, so I went to take a pill and then slept again. It is now seven in the morning, about five hours after taking the medicine, and my lungs are burning. I am terrified. I read on the bottle that side effects include trouble breathing and decided to deal with the pain rather than take the medication again. Or it could be something else and I am just making a big deal out of it? (I hope so!) How long will these side effects last? Thank you.

Hello, Sarvenaz! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem you experienced.
Opiates, such as Hydrocodone, can cause some breathing issues, but usually it is more like feeling unable to breathe, or taking rapid, shallow breaths, according to the FDA, so the burning sensation is definitely unusual.
I think you did the right thing by stopping the medication and I think it would be a good idea to have it checked out by your doctor, to be sure.
If it's some type of allergic reaction, it may take a week or 2 for all symptoms to go away.
Is there anything else I can help with?
Hello Verwon,
Thank you very much for the reply. The burning sensation has decreased and I have gone to the doctor. For the past week, I have been swallowing mashed potatoes. The night before the burning began, I found that I could actually chew food again, so I ate like a wild animal. Doctor said I should have gone a little slower . . . (-_-")
Again, thank you very much for the reply. I was very worried, but I am now relieved!
