Vicodin is a combination medications that contains Hydrocodone and Acetaminophen, so they are actually the active ingredients in it.

Do you have a problem taking Vicodin?
what is the diff between 5-500 and 5-750?
What does the 10-325 mean or contain /content on a 10/325 hydro codon pill?
How many grams of acetaminophen?
I have several partial bottles of hydrocodone/acetaminophen and all seem different.
Why--some are 5-325, 7.5-325, 7.5/500 mg. What is the difference?? Are some stronger than other??
Hydrocodone /acetiphenoman 7.5 /750 es and 7.5/750 t what's the difference
How can it have VICODIN in it when that's a registered trade name? The problem with 90% of you is that you do not distinguish between brand and generics. It's about time y'all started to use the proper generic name for medicines and ONLY use the brand name when actually talking about the proprietary brand by the holders of the intellectual property of that name. I could have been asking for Xanax and got some of the usual completely useless US generics like Mylan; Mylan alprazolam made in Europe and South Africa is completely different from American 'A1' and 'A4' pills, which are about the worst on the planet, but if I ask for XANAX specifically, I expect that brand and not a generic. Same with VALIUM (Roche only) and OPANA (Endo only). There is only one alprazolam generic made in the USA which is good enough for Europeans to use, given the difference in quality between our continents, and that's GREENSTONE, which, surprise, is owned by Pfizer and are exactly the same tablets as branded Xanax, only with different imprints (G3719-3722), on the same production line, with the same excipients in the same percentages, i.e. the same tablets.
Mallinckrodt in general make the best US-made generic opioids, but almost NONE of the generics on sale are anywhere as good as the overpriced and price-fixed brands...The first step to clarifying the situation is to use the proper name of the DRUG, and never, EVER use the brand name when talking of a generic, no matter how decent or otherwise, and to reserve any talk of the brands for the actual, real branded goods. Then we would know where we stood. I would NEVER use 'Valium' for the tablets made by Actavis, and never use 'OxyContin' for an inferior generic. Might I ask how many people would agree with me there, especially when writing on such a site as this, where (thanks to US laws permitting a certain discrepancy in dosage for generics, whilst in Europe, there MUST be precisely the same amount of API in the generic as there is in the original brand?) the difference between underdosed generics could affect health badly? Roche's famous RIVOTRIL (for some odd reason, branded KLONOPIN in the USA ONLY whereas it is known as Rivotril worldwide) was withdrawn from the UK market due to lack of sales, our NHS having decreed that only the cheapest generic be dispensed on NHS prescriptions; I now have to fill my prescription from Belgium, Netherlands or Romania/Slovenia/Serbia where Roche have licenced Galenika to make that brand, since I have NEVER found a single clonazepam generic which is effective at prophylaxis of both epilepsy and panic disorder at my dosage of 2mg tds... confusion between brands and generics is the only huge issue that American consumers need to address badly.
So is there VICODIN in those tablets? By definition, of course not, it's impossible!
There ARE however, the two APIs hydrocodone (dihydrocodeineone) and acetaminophen (paracetamol), the latter being completely superfluous. Until the withdrawal from Europe of DICODID 10mg, which was the ONLY brand of that weak opioid to be marketed - as an antitussive, NEVER an analgesic - I never had any reason to want to fill any prescriptions from the USA. When I found that not only was this cheap drug massively overpriced but also filled with as much as 750mg of acetaminophen/paracetamol, probably one of the most dangerous and toxic drugs on sale anywhere, I had to consider other options. The use of acetaminophen should be reserved for people with a fever and never to bulk out an opioid unnecessarily - see also Percocet, an even more ridiculous combination; there is NO benefit in combining the two as acetaminophen has almost NO analgesic activity compared with either of hydro- or oxy-codone. They are a con-trick invented by the SELF-REGULATING US Pharma industry, need I say any more at all?
