Hydrocodone 7 5 Tablets For Patient Weighing 240 Lbs

My husband has a very painful back. He was injured as a child when he was hit by a car. As an adult he now has arthritis in his hip and neck. He is going to a pain clinic and is given only 4 hydrocodone 7.5/500 per day to control his pain. He weighs 240 lbs. What should he be getting? He has had to take 5 per day to relieve his pain. I believe he should be getting at least 5 per day because of his weight. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Jet

Narcotic pain medications aren't generally prescribed according to someone's weight. They are usually prescribed according to the severity of their pain and any tolerance that may, or may not exist, to narcotic opiates.

For some people, even at the same weight as your husband, this dosage taken 4 times a day would be too much and, for others, it may not be enough.

What he needs to do is let his doctor know if the current dosing regimen isn't controlling his pain. Has he talked to his doctor, yet?
