How Soon Optimal Rate?

My 35 year old son has HBP and high heart rate. . He used to take Bystolic but then lost his insurance and couldn't go to dr. Hasn't taken medicine for 8 months. His BP ran around 165/110 - sometimes higher. Heart rate has gone up to 175. He finally started back on Bystolic last week. Today his BP was 140/90. Much better, but still too high. How long to know if he is taking dufficient dose?

That is a very good improvement over 165/110! I'm glad it's already working so well for him.

It will take about 4 weeks to reach its full effectiveness level in his body, so he can tell how much it's going to lower it at this dosage.

However, there are other options available that are much cheaper, so if he has trouble affording a doctor's visit and his medication, he may want to speak to his doctor about it, the next time he is in for an appointment. There are many on the market that are just as effective, but not so expensive.
