It is actually the Acetaminophen in these that causes most of the problems related to overdose toxicity, rather than the narcotic Hydrocodone.
It isn't safe to exceed 4,000mgs a day, taking more than that may be fatal and, even if you don't suffer fatal effects, you could cause severe liver damage, or go into liver failure.
It is often thought to be extremely safe, since it's available over the counter in most countries, but Acetaminophen can actually be a very dangerous substance if used improperly.
