I use the fentenyl patch as well. They do fall off during shower and I have the same issue.My pharmacists told me about "Tegaderm". It's a clear band aide made by
3M Nextcare $8 for 8 and can be bought at walmart. It goes right over the patch and doesn't come off till you take it off. I know it's hard but try to make it as long as you can on each patch. Save each patch after you take it off for emergency situations. In case you do run out early you will at least have those. Even though they are used some will still have a hint of medicine on the patch itself. Best bet is to skip a patch here and there. Or push it to 4 days instead of 3. That's what I have learned to do. It's hard but once you learn to manage with your breakthrough med. It can work. Best of luck

He is not a moran! Moran! Drug testing has evolved very precise! They can detect what you have taken exactly an also they are able to de yr et which milligram y out have in your system. Such as Oxycontin. Each tablet has the normal make up of the drug it's self . But they have included different color dyes in diffe rent milligrams. Google it there are a variety of additional ingredients in each pill that differs from the other. So opiate isn't just opiate! So do some research before you start calling people morans.

Whoever is saying it will show up as an opioid/opiate is the complete *****n. They need to test specifically for fentanyl for it to show up. I know because at my methadone clinic it doesn't show up. In order to get on methadone I needed to be tested twice cuz the first test came back clean. I needed to specifically tell them I take fentanyl for them to test for it.

Brett and this lady. you guys are wrong. Stop spreading misinformation when you really have NO idea what your talking about. ALL of it can potentially be tested for, true and no one is debating that. If you are a nurse w/ said masters degree then your an incredibly uneducated and an arrogant nurse when it comes to this kinda thing. Synthetic, man made opiates that are not a derivative of the poppy plant have to be specifically tested for. So for example codeine, morphine,herion will all show positive on a cup test for opiates. But say you used fetynal, hydro, oxy they would not show up on a cup test for opiates. Though they will show up when sent to the lab for a more thorough test that specifies those drugs. And some cup tests both oxys and opiates on the cup. I know this is a super old thread but I can't stand people like you.

Hey there, I'may on a very high dosage of of pain medication, I am on 3 X 100mg patches of Fentynal every 72 hrs and 2 to 4 dilaudid per day and I live in Canada where they've started a patch exchange program,you have to bring the pharmacist 30 used patches on paperwork provided by the government to get your next prescription issued. So what am I supposed to do if I loose a few in the shower or whatever? It's ridiculous people who have no business using certain meds are making the lives for those who are in legitimate pain almost impossible there's no trust because of people who have abused it

Fentanyl is a opioid and it most definitely WILL show up on a drug test I get drug tested every month, once a month. I chewed on a patch and failed for opiates.opioid still shows as opiates im 100% sure of that from experience.

Noticed you complain about your Fentanyl Patch coming off early. I have a trick that works quite well. If you apply the patch to your skin (I find the back of the shoulder the best place) with a TEGADERM bandage on top of it (tegaderm is just the brand name for a clear light adhesive bandage - like they use on top of i.v.'s). The tegaderm will provide a larger adhesive area, which is waterproof. And the Fentanyl patch will stay on until you take it off! Also, are yo suffering from patches of adhesive left behind on your skin from the fentanyl patch?? The tegaderm helps provide a hermetic seal between the fentanyl and your skin - in other words your natural skin moisture remains intact. Bottom line is the patch gets a little wet and this eliminates the adhesive transfer that happens using the patch alone.

If someones is testing your urine for drugs and all you are taking is fentanyl, it will not show positive on the dip stick UNLESS the dipstick is specifically a fentanyl test. It will not pop positive under the morphine or opiate panel, it will NOT. If it does it's because it's not fentanyl you were using and someone obviously just told you it was. I love all of the nurses and doctors who are claiming to be right, calling people *****s who are the ones who are correct. Fentanyl has its own test and unless they have a specific test stick you wont be negative for fentanyl on a normal 4-8-12 panel test.

Thats not true i know from experience. Synthetic opioids need to be tested for specifically. That why on a twelve panel hydrocodone is included. Under your theory they would not need that because you think they are the same...

if you work in the heat or use heating pad on area then it will cause the med to absorb quicker and then patch will not last 3 days. Id ask questions about how they are testing and if its changed and remind them of your good track recird of being compliant. our local ER even stated that they have ppl everyday that OD on it because they get sick with a fever and it absorbs the fentanyl all at once. hope this helpps.

Well the reason is it goes by body temperature and it produces more when your body temperature goes up and or if you are running a fever your supposed to take it off cause it can overdose you

I understand that ur a RN but fentanyl doesn't always show on urine test. I know this due to the fact that I wear a 50mcg patch & get tested every 6 mos... I always test neg. The only reason my Dr doesn't give me any probs is due to a. I have one on when I test neg & b. My app area is scarred due to it. I'm no expert in opiod vs opiate but I do have proven knowledge that it doesn't always appear on urine. However, I'm pretty sure it would always appear if sent to a lab or/and done by blood.
