How Long Does Dilaudid Stay In Your Sytem
UpdatedMy regular pain meds where not working for my chronic back pain so I went the hospital they gave me a small shot of Dilaudid. November 3rd I went to my pain management told them they had me do a UA, signed paper for them to get copy from hospital. Had another appointment on 12-1 they said nothing then on 12-29 they told me they couldn't see me anymore cause my UA from November showed positive for Dilaudid. I told Them there was no way that could be possible, none the less they didn't believe me, now I have no pain doc, now what?

Due to people getting "hooked" on this type of medication, the doctors do not like to give it out. Yes, it does come in pill form - 8mg or 3 mg. If you have all your paperwork from the time you had your shot at the hospital etc. and can show it to the doctor, it is proof you are not an addict and he will more than likely give it to you. Where it is a controlled substance, you will need proof of why it was in your blood stream.
They knew I received the shot, they said there is no way it could still be in my system 11 days later.
Hi Connie,
According to nih.gov, the average half life of Dilaudid (when administered intravenously) is reported to be about 2.3 hours. This means that if you were administered an 8mg dose at say 10am for example, its rate of excretion may look something like this throughout the course of the day:
10am- 8mg dose taken
12:15pm- 4mg remaining
2:30pm- 2mg remaining
4:45pm- 1mg remaining
7pm- 0.5mg remaining
9:15pm- 0.025mg remaining and so forth...
Based on this information alone, I too wonder how it could've remained in your system 11 days later when studies suggest that it should've been out within a fraction of the time? Do you take any other medications along with Dilaudid that might interfere with the test results?
Depending on the quality of the drug test being used, one theory is that certain metabolites from the Opana and Oxycodone in Percocet may have something to do with a potentially false reading. It's something that might be worth looking into, as from what I've heard, some tests are unable to distinguish between different opioids/opiates. I only wish there was a way to prove it, because these types of mistakes are being disputed against all the time.
K thank you
Did you show them the Rx? Even though it was a shot, it still needs an Rx from a Doctor. I'd have had them send the Rx to my pain management. That is BS. Does the hospital that gave you the shot have a website like "NyChart" or something that lets you go online to see your records? If so, request a copy, or else go in and request a list of all the Rx's in the past year or whatever. It's not your fault a doctor prescribed that to you. They are the ones that are supposed to know what is going on. And, OF COURSE, you had no idea they were giving you the shot until they already started prepping for it. ;-). Good luck!
