How Long Can You Take Meloxicam Safely?
UpdatedI have osteoarthritis in my spine, knees and hips and have recently developed severe pain in both arms, extending to the fingers on my right hand, worse on getting out of bed in the morning. I was taking Panadol Osteo two three times a day which didn't really help much so my doctor prescribed Mobic. It helps a lot but not completely so am wondering if I should keep taking Panadol Osteo as well as Mobic? Also, is it necessary to have a few days break from Mobic every so often? I take Sotalol for AF, Perindopril for blood pressure, Apixaban as a blood thinner and Carbimazole for hyperthyroidism. I have asked my doctor and pharmacist these questions but am still confused as to what I should safely do even though I have read all the information available.

Hello, Janice! How are you?
There is really no specific time frame that anyone can give you for how long you can take any medication safely, it varies from person to person and many individual factors come into play, such as overall health, genetics, other medications they are taking and etc.
With long-term use, as detailed by the NIH, there is a risk of stomach ulceration, liver damage and liver failure, so your doctor should be monitoring you regularly for any possible problems.
And no, it should not be combined with the Panadol, since that is also very harsh on your liver.
Is there anything else I can help with?
Thank you for your reply which was very helpful. At present, I am taking Mobic for a week then alternating with Panadol Osteo for a week. In other words, Mobic only for a week and Panadol only for a week. I cannot do without either of these because of my moderate\severe arthritis. Thanks for your reply.
Thank you for your reply. I have tried both Mobic and Voltaron both of which gave some relief. Am now having weekly physiotherapy - deep massage, ultrasound and needle therapy which is helping a lot. Am going to gradually go off anti-inflammatories because of my heart medication so will see how things progress.
I have been on Mobic every day for 15 years. My blood work showed it was affecting my kidneys and so i had to stop immediately. I have been off them for 6 weeks and my back is other areas are in so much pain. Not allowed to take them anymore. No one told me you should take breaks from them. Some people take for a few days and then have a rest from them or just take at the weekend. Why is there no more information regarding what this drug can do and why did my GP never tell me to stop despite nurses telling me to tell him I should not be taking it every day. My blood work has improved since I stopped it but I am in a lot of pain and now know how much they helped me in the past. Physio and Chiro have not helped me and I am at a loss what to do short of taking narcotic meds as Renal guy suggested, but they surely must be quite as harmful.
Been taking 15mg Meloxicam for around 6 years due to a TBE affecting my movements. Learned that could be dangerous, although the only side effect is major bruising, so dropped to 7.5mg. While I'm not in pain as such I can feel the difference and feel uncomfortable. Rather than walk almost normally I walk like a drunk.
