How Does Lisinopril Correlate With Losartan
(Newest replies first)

I am just switching from Lisinopril 10mg to Losartan 50mg. Isn't that quite a jump in mg? I would like to stay at 10mg or at least 25mg. How does this compare? Thanks

Be ware of any new joint pains.
I suffered from sever hip pain for a whole year before I realized I was caused by the losartan
I have taken Lisinopril for several years, 10 mg. My doctor changed it to 20 mg one time and it threw me low pressure. She told me to cut them in 1/2 and take 1/2 a pill daily until gone and I could resume the 10 mg. today she took me off the Lisinopril and put me on Losartan 50 mg. I will check to see if it might be more than I need.. may be cutting them in 1/2 also.
Hi Gail,
My doctor is switching from Lisinopril 10 mg to Losartan 50 mg because after about 7 years i recently developed a dry cough that he feels is the side effect of the Lisinopril.
My concern is the large different in the dosage. How did your doctor explain it to you? And what did your doctor say about cutting your 50 mg tablet in half?
What did the doctor say about splitting the losartan pill? Is it ok?
Thanks for your reply. I did ask if I could begin by cutting the Losartan in half and try 25mg to see how I do with the lower dose.
You should talk to your doctor about start with a lower dose. Ask your dictor why did he decided to start with 50mg and not 25mg for example.
Thanks for your help.
Hi Gail,
I think the trouble with trying to figure out a comparable dose is that, although both Lisinopril and Losartan are used for similar purposes, each drug is in a completely different class of medications and therefore have a different mechanism of action for treating the said condition. So you may need to talk with your doctor about monitoring your progress on Losartan in order to determine if you need to continue at that dosage or start off with something smaller.
But all in all, there's really no effective way to compare two different medications at two different dosages, since 50mgs of Losartan may or may not be equivalent to 10mgs of Lisinopril, depending on what you're taking it for and how your body responds to each medication. I suppose as long as you get your desired effects, that's probably what matters most?
I hope this helps!
