I have a friend who takes suboxone & recently got a subutex given to him. I take suboxone myself but ive never heard of subutex until couple days ago. I would like to know how is subutex supposed to be taken? Under your tongue or do u swallow it? I am worried about my friend & i have searched every site possible on information on subutex but none of these sites say how it is suppose to be taken. what are the side effects of subutex? why do doctors give pregnant women subutex & not suboxone during pregnancy? i need to know any & all information on subutex. i have hidden the pill from my friend until i can try 2 find some information on it & he has been sick but i dont want anything bad to happen to him.also is subutex a small white round pill with number 8 on one side & an arrow on the other & does it come in any other forms or colors etc.? I'm desperate for answers!!!!!

Suboxone has an Opiate blocker in it, Naloxone. Subutex doesn't have the blocker. Both should be taken Sublingually (Under the tongue) ...if you look under you tongue you can see many tiny blood vessels. They absorb the medication very quickly. If you swallow it you'll probably lose 1/2 of the effect & it will take much longer to get into your blood-stream... It should say, in big letter's to take it sublingually. That way it goes straight into your blood-stream & not have to go thru your entire digestive system...

Herbie, I'm not trying to call you out but you are giving lots of incorrect information. buprenorphine the active ingredient in Suboxone and Subutex is only absorbed sublingually. If you swallowed them you would get no benefits. It is not absorbed in the stomach. Additionally naloxone does NOT have the action of keeping you from feeling high. It is in the medication to deter IV drug users from injecting it. If injected it is supposed to act as a reversal for opiates. It is what they give a person in the ER if the have overdosed. I don't think it works like the manufacturer planned because I've been in groups with people that have injected the suboxone tablets and films.

1st of all you are dead wrong about the big pills that say 511 & the ones that have an 8 being different. They're both 8mg Subutex. The only reason the pharmacist would give you the big ones with 511, or the small ones with eight, without questioning it, is because they are exactly the same. If the 511 were three times stronger and the doctor wrote 8 mg, you could get either. They don't make either Subs higher than 8mg...do some research.!!.!

Sorry, but 54-411 & the ones with 8 & an arrow on the other side are IDENTICAL. They're both 8mg of Buprenorphine without the blocker. So, by saying 3 of the ones with 54-411 are 3 times stronger than the ones with 8 on one side are exactly the same...8mg Buprenorphine. Google it or call the "Drug & Poison Center" & you'll see that I'm right. You are just misinformed, or haven't done enough research. Sorry, no disrespect intended...Do a bit more research. You definitely want to know about this medicine. It is very powerful medication and should be taken properly.!.!.!

Sorry, "Subutex Head", but the "54-411 are identical to the ones that have an eight on one side and an arrow on the other side. They are both 8 mg of Buprenorphine with no blocker, I don't know who told you that the 54-411's are any different. The only difference is the Manufacturer...Just because the 54-411's are bigger does not mean that they are 3 times stronger. That would mean that the bigger ones are 24mg. They don't even make 24mg Subutex or Suboxone. You need to Google it & inform yourself a bit more 'cause you have no clue what you're talking about. Sorry, no disrespect intended...

Suboxone & Subutex should both be taken Sublingually, (Under the Tongue) There are many tiny blood vessels there that quickly absorb it into your bloodstream....If you swallow it, it has to go thru your digestive system which takes much, much longer to get into your blood stream...Believe me, under the tongue is by far the best way to take it. It works almost instantly that way...GOOD LUCK.!.!.!

The difference between Suboxone and Subutex is that Suboxone has, I think it's called, Naloxone in it which is an opiate blocker. I don't know why or how that works but that's the way it is. You should have no problems taking either one @ the same time.

Exactly, your comment was very rude, making that person prob feel stupid and calling them ignorant. Your huge wall post did have some valid points, though you repeated most of it several times. I know a lot about medications and don't call others ignorant for not knowing, most people don't. If anyone is ignorant it you dear. You put people down, repeat yourself, and you can't even spell or say your sentences right. My advise to you is that you think about what your saying before saying it. You must have been high as hell to write all of that thinking it makes you look intelligent, but reality is, it didn't. But one thing I do agree on is if the friend was prescribed the meds by a professional don't hide them, they got them for a reason, and not to mention that's totally against the law. Please check online to make sure its subutex. But every subutex I've ever seen has been a round white pill. NEVER abuse it...it causes horrid effects when people do that. Its ONLY to be taken sublingual. ..under the tongue. It must dissolve all the way while under the tongue. not swallowed.

Ask your Dr. to prescribe more. I know people that are prescribed 4, 8mg pills per day. So, more for you might be the answer to relieving your pain better.!.!.!

Subutex has no naloxone in it. It's safer for a pregnant woman, who take it for pain I believe. And in my opinion less harmful. But Doctors don't like giving it to rehab. patients because of the abuse possibility. It's also highly desirable on the street and easy to sell or trade. Naloxone is the blocker in Suboxone. It will keep you from feeling high on opiates, synthetic or natural.

Subutex & Suboxone should both be taken under the tongue (Subingual). It says that on every bottle of it I've seen. If you look under your tongue, you'll see that there are many blood vessels, very close to the surface of that skin. By putting the medicine under your tongue, it is more quickly absorbed by your body. It desolves quickly & is absorbed by those Sublingual vein's.!.!.!

That was the smartest and most intelligent post that i have seen. I have been on suboxone for years but recently got a few subutex and i wasnt completely sure how i should take it. I read all the posts and yours was definately the most intellegent and informing. Thank You
