How Do I Fill Out Of State Script For Pain Meds?.

My son and I are visiting my daughter in Fla., and we need to fill our prescriptions for pain medication, written by our Dr. in our home state of Maine, but no pharmacy will fill them. Our Dr. didn't think we would have a problem, but he is wrong. Now we are running out of meds and 2000 miles away from home. We had planned on staying for another month, but don't know what to do. I have back and right knee injuries and don't know how I will be able to drive that far or that long without any medication.

Hello, Karhy! How are you? Sorry about the problems that you're having.

Unfortunately, most places aren't going to fill out of state prescriptions for controlled substances, due to the fact that they are very hard to verify and make it easier for someone to doctor and pharmacy hop.

The best suggestion I can make is that if you run out of medications and are going into withdrawal, you should go to a nearby ER for assistance.

Does anyone else have any ideas that may help?

I am going to visit my parents in florida for thansgiving but it will be too early to fill my hydrocodone and morphine scripts in louisiana where I live. Can I fill these scripts in florida? If Not Ill be a full 4 days without medication and it will be very difficult to drive back to louisiana in severe pain. I dont want to have to cancel my trip I havent seen my family in two years. Any suggestions?

Sorry to say the chances of finding a pharmacy to fill your csll Rx's that early will not be possible since the new CDC fed.dispensing guidelines have changed.lts horrible that true pain patients are forced to make such devastatingly difficult choices like you will be about a family holiday gathering.god speed

I had this very problem just from southern florida to Northern Florida so I used to give my rx's to the pharmacy in south florida and then have someone pick them up for me and mail them to me through ups ground. This worked every time. It's the only way I know. Can you mail your scripts back to Maine to someone in your family who can give them to your pharmacist, pick them up and then mail them to you where you are via ups? You can print out the label on any computer at ups.com - just try to have someone with the same last name pick them up if possible. If not, call your pharmacist and ask if they can mail your medicine to you (some private pharmacies do that) if it's walgreens or one of the chains forget that - I would have someone pick the up for you and ups them to you overnight. Hope that helps. It's the only hope I think you have here. Saves one of you from flying home and flying back with your meds. They are soooooo strict these days with controlled substances.

One of the thing I do is let's say I am going on a trip on Jun 15 however my pain meds are due on the 20th. What I will do is ask the doctor a month before my trip to give me a 3 week supply of medication. That will mean I will run out before I go on my trip and can get a refill jut before I go instead of the other way around. The refill I get just before I go is for 30 days. Doing this way changes my pickup date so I get the medication earlier but I am not asking for additional pills earlier. I never had a problem with a doctor doing this. The only problem is that you have to plan ahead.
