Viractin Cold Sore Treatment was the BEST. I have suffered with coldsores for years. This was the best treatment I have come acrossed. A small amount of this product and no more coldsore. I haven't found an answer to my question yet. Is Viractin still available over counter or do I need a prescription for it?

I agree. I was so disappointed when I went for a new tube. Even my son says nothing else worked so effectively for him and he's hard to sell on any meds. I won't waste The ridiculous $$$ Abreva charges and then doesn't even come close to Viractin. Please bring it back. I'm so glad I'm not the only one who realized a good product.

Just got a cold sore after a terrible cold and bronchitis, and remembered that the only thing that realy nipped it in the bud several years, when I had the last cold sore, was Viractin. As soon as I felt the "itch" start before the sore even erupted, I applied the gel to the spot and the sore never deleloped more than a little redness then was gone in a couple days. After reading all the positive comments here, I wonder if there wasn't more to the story of why it was taken off the market. Too bad, because it worked the best.

i am jumping in for viractin, i bought 4 tubes a few years ago, am now out, shocked that it is now out of business nothing close to this product, also have used Anbesol the last few years it helps but not as fast acting

Viractin was, hands down, the best cold sore/herpes treatment I ever tried. So bummed I can't find it anymore!!!!!!! Abreva sucks.

Plain and simple, Viractin, it appears has been discontinued by the manufacturer and there seemsG to be nothing comparable even though Abreva brags about their healing properties. As far as I know, there is only a prescription drug called Valtrex for herpes, but it has many side affects and I'm not sure it's worth the risk.

HEY MEDICAL COMPANIES...PLEASE MAKE AND SELL VIRACTIN. PEOPLE ARE DESPARATE. Abreva does not work at all, and it is expensive. So I went to my doctor for a prescription of something that would come close to Viractin. He gave me a script for Denavir, which is no better than Abreva. It costed me $156.00 out of pocket, and that is AFTER my insurance paid. The tube is as small as my little finger. He also gave me a script for Lidocaine, which is just OK. We really need Viractin back. Someone out there PLEASE HELP US !!!!!!!

LOVED Viractin as well and am so disappointed that it is no longer available. I use what little is left of my Viractin as well as Lysine cream and pills which are all natural (made with garlic) and the two together are unbelievable! I would recommend getting Lysine and fight the virus from the inside out. It really does work, not like Abreva which I haven't even bothered buying. Also, I found that using those little sticker things that are made for hiding the coldsores during the day, at night, after applying a generous amount of Lysine cream is a serious benefit.

I want Viractin back...I don't care what anyone says...it does heal the cold sores...my mouth has been a mess and this is the only thing that works...I have tried everyone of the other products and they are of no value at all.....

I totally agree. I used Viractin gel for years and it worked every time. As soon as the tingling started I used the gel and it not only stopped the cold sore from blossoming but it stopped the tingling and made the lip feel better. Please, please bring it back. Abreva does not do the job at all. I remember many years ago that I used something else, way before Viractin, that had eucalyptus oil in it and that was great too. Unfortunately it was discontinued. I was so happy to find Viractin.

Viractin gel is the best for cold sores!!!! Can't believe it is no longer being made. It was cost efficient and worked better than all these high priced items. I too would like someone to pick up this product and start making it again.

Dollars to donuts, Viractin was bought and shelved by the companies behind Abreva. It makes sense and cents. Abreva costs much more - the pharma behind it got an FDA patent for abreviating healing time over placebo & went to market. They eliminated the competition with purchasing power not with a better product. Researching why Viractin is no longer available is fruitless and shady. Like a cover up.

I find that it is the very best cold sore medicine that I have very used. I have been getting sores for over 40 years. As soon as I get a little tingle, I put some on and I don't get full blown sore.

I have looked all over for Vriactin Cold Sore Gel only to be told thay no longer carry it. Why is that? Maybe because it might put all the others out of business because it works. It takes the pain away and you heal mighty fast. If I use the others I have pain and it gets dry and nasty and sore then bleeds. When you find one thing that works they take it away. Talk about government beaucracy. More fun. Bring back Viractin.
