Hi Pat,

Due to the number of complaints regarding withdrawal symptoms associated with Lyrica, I would highly recommend that you taper off this dangerous drug instead of stopping it abruptly.

Usually for drugs like this the safest way to stop taking them is to tapper off them, if possible. Some medications can be taken in fractions (actually cut into pieces) and these smaller pieces can be taken in place of the regular dose for a period of several weeks until the body is no longer dependent upon them.

It may also be a good idea to talk to your doctor or pharmacist about writing up a tapering schedule for you on a calendar to give you an idea of how long it might take before you can safely stop taking it.

I hope this helps!

Hi Pat,
I have been off Lyrica for about a month. I stopped Lyric abruptly , it was horrible , I was so sick for about 2 and ahalf weeks. I am a lot better now. They suggest that you slowly come down in mg and steady out for a while then come down more and so forth, I recommend doing it under a doctors care. It is dangerous.

I took lyrica for the last 5 days. Will I go through those types of withdrawal and how long will it last if I do?

I was prescribed Lyrica about a month ago 50 mg. twice daily for chronic pain due to the pain from Cauda Equina Syndrom. After a few days, The pain in my foot disappeared. Dr. increased to 100 BID. That is when the problems started. I couldn't tolerate it. Pain in foot came back and is now worse than it ever was. I left dosage at 50 mg. BID. I now want to stop. I know this is not the drug for me. My plan is to speak to my pharmacist today re withdrawal and my pain Dr. this week. I would rather have the pain that I had before than the pain I have now. I have had this injury for 25 years and never once shed a tear. Now all I want to do is cry.

Taper definitely taper under a doctor's supervision because not only will you suffer withdraw but because it works directly on your brain not on the pain itself it is highly dangerous!
