How Long Has Sulfamethoxazole Been Prescribed For Uti

I was just wondering how long this drug has been on the market for UTI"s or if it's fairly new?

Based on my research, The FDA states that Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim was approved around 1980-1985 from various manufacturers. This antibiotic however, is used for a variety of bacterial infections (not just UTI's), so I'm sure people were using it for all sorts of infections at that time.
