How long does it take to get Oxaliplatin and xeloda out of your system?
Oxaliplatin has a short elimination half-life of about 10-25 minutes. Many pharmacists consider most or all of the drug to be out your system in the period of about 5 half-lives. In relation to this drug, that would mean Oxaliplatin takes roughly 2 hours to leave your system.
Xeloda (Capecitabine) is largely eliminated as metabolites (> 95% of the dose). The terminal half-life of the parent drug and its metabolites is short (less than 1 hour), and excretion proceeds via the urine. Essentially this would mean that Xeloda should be out of your system for the most part within a 4-5 hour time frame, depending on each individual.
NOTE: the average time it takes to leave your system is largely dependent upon the amount of each drug taken. The half-life serves as a general guideline and should be re-calculated according to the dose taken (for more accurate results). In either case, 5 half lives still provides a good estimate.
To do the math, simply divide the dose you took (e.g. 20mg) in half after the half-life period is over (e.g. 10 mg), and so forth until you have a small number. I recommend using a calculator for this method.
Do you have any other questions or concerns regarding these drugs?
