60mg MS Contin ( morph sulfate) takes about two hours to reach max relief. It only lasts 5-6 hours.
Taking 1 every six hours is best for good results.
But, the longer you take it, the more you will need to reach same level of relief.
ok, my doctor said he has do refer to pain management doctor, because its the law he says!.how true is that?!
As to how long it takes to start being released into your body to start working, it's roughly 15 to 20 minutes, or so.

I was on 3 10mg morphine sulfate per day for my back pain. I went to see my doctor but he was called away on emergency. The doctor I saw who me I dislike and have no respect for wrote a script for slow release morphine 1 10 mg and 1 15 mg to try and wean me off. I AM IN DAY TWO OF THIS AND FEEL AWFUL. I DON'T KNOW WHEN TO TAKE THE SECOND ONE AND I HAVE HAD TO INCREASE MY ATIVAN TO COPE WITH HOW I AM FEELING. ANY HELP OR ADVICE OUT THERE?
Does Rhodes make Morphine Sulfate Extended-Release Tablets in 40 mg
and 50 mg tablets?
I take percoset and 60mg morphine several times a day, and I don't have to go to pain management. I was told the same thing in the past, so I asked my doctor the same question. The answer is no, you do not have to go to pain management in most cases. In some states the government is trying to make people go, but it is basically up to each individual doctor. My doctor does his own pain management.
This is the only answer that actually answered the OP's question! What a miracle! I was beginning to think I wasn't going to find an answer to this question.
Re: Bob (# 1)
I take 60 mg m.s contin (long acting, time release) morphine sulphate and relief begins within an hour. It lasts 8 to 12 hours. In an overdose situation, the nature of time release morphine can become apparent as long as 15 hours later. Dangerous.
I just switched from 80mg Oxycontin ER to 60mg Morphine ER and couldn't be happier.
