The pills don't stay active in your system for very long, which is why you can get pregnant even just by missing one tablet.
However, because they do adjust the hormonal balance in your body, in most cases, it is recommended that you be off of them for about 3 months, before trying to get pregnant, so your body had a chance to re-regulate the hormones on its own.
