Heritage Pharmaceuticals And 500 Mg. Metformin (Top voted first)
UpdatedHeritage brand Metformin did not work for me, but I took it for months and developed blisters around the outside of my mouth which is not herpes. Now back on Ascend Metformin and it is working for me. The blisters and inflammation are lessening but not completely gone. Has anyone had this problem and know what it is and how to treat it?

I had no problem with any of the generic Metformins until the blackberry filler/scent was added. It burns the roof if my mouth and has that eggy metallic taste.
My blood sugar numbers were very high when I was on Amneal and Heritage brand Metformin. My eyesight was affected and I had inflammation and blisters around my mouth. I am now on Ascend Metformin and my blood sugar is way down between 73 and 107. The inflammation is slowly going away and the blisters are lessening. I live in SoCal and can't get help from the manufacturer or the pharmacies. I filed a complaint with the FDA and a grievance with my insurance company because I can no longer get Ascend brand Metformin since CVS purchased Target pharmacies. Shouldn't the patient be able to order the brand that works for them? No, we can't because it is all about the pharmacies' bottom line, not about the patient. This is what our medical establishment has become... The bottom line! They no longer administer the Hippocratic Oath in medical schools!
Hello, Serendipitee! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problems you've had.
According to several reports noted by the FDA, there have been cases of Metformin causing pseudoporphyria, which is a type of extreme bullous photosensitivity and it usually does cause blisters like that, so that could explain your problem.
It may never entirely go away, while you're taking this medication.
Did your doctor provide you with any advice for treating it or preventing it? Perhaps you could try a different medication?
I know that Heritage brand Metformin is the cause and the Ascend brand is lessening the blisters and inflammation. I am never and I repeat NEVER in sunlight. I will look into the that as a possible explanation. If it never goes away I will be very unhappy about that. The FDA, in my opinion, doesn't care that these inferior products maim or kill us. I will be seeing a PI attorney if these blisters are a permanent condition. I am seeing a dermatologist this week and hope he can help. Thanks for the information.
Have been on Ascend Metformin for three months now and everyday the blisters around my mouth are getting better, almost completely gone. The dermatologist diagnosed perioral dermatitis and prescribed Metrogel. I have not used it and the condition is getting better everyday. He refused to link the Heritage or Amneal Metformin to this condition. They stand with big pharma. To hell with the patient. I found a pharmacy which is ordering the Ascend Metformin for me. It is all about the cost and the pharmacies are all about their bottom line, not the patient.
Both Ascend and Heritage are manufactured by the exact same manufacturer-
