Herbal Remedies For High Blood Pressure
UpdatedIs losartan a statin? My blood pressure is high and they changed my pill from perindopril 4mg to losartan potassium 100 mg. Now my blood pressure is even higher and they have given me bendroflumethiazide 2.5mg. Can l take an herbal remedy such as co-q10?

No, losartan is not a statin. It is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist drug used mainly to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).
Among the benefits of taking CoQ10 supplements is helping to maintain healthy blood pressure levels that are already within the normal range. This should not be confused with the treatment of high blood pressure which falls outside of the “healthy blood pressure” category. While there is good evidence to support the use of CoQ10 in the treatment of high blood pressure, this should only be done as part of a doctor-supervised and recommended regime (always consult your doctor!). CoQ10 should never be a replacement or substitute for any such regime. More studies evaluating the treatment benefits with higher doses over a longer period of time are needed.
Please speak with your doctor before adding ANY supplement to your regimen!
If you do decide to take CoQ10, it’s essential to choose a CoQ10 supplement that is both water and fat-soluble to be sure your body is actually absorbing it. Research shows that solubilized formulations of CoQ10 are absorbed better by the body and lead to higher plasma CoQ10 levels.

No, Losartan is not a statin, it's an ARB that is commonly used to treat high blood pressure, and certain cardiac issues. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension.

Bendroflumethiazide can cause similar side effects, as well as dehydration, since it removes excess fluid from the body.

As to herbal remedies, there are some that are claimed to help, but they are not proven to do so, and if your blood pressure is already high, it is best to use the medications to lower it as fast, and safely as possible, then in the future, when it has lowered, you can visit getting off of the medication, if your doctor approves.
Is there anything else I can help with?
