Help Please Hating Life Right Now!!!

Hi everyone xxx just want you to know I feel your pain. I didn't realise what this drug was until I tried to stop taking it?! I am so hurt and angry!! I was put onto 80mg of Oxycodone a day and OxyContin every four hours for a severely damaged pelvis from pregnancy. This was by a hospital that didn't believe anything was wrong with me!! I also have Fibromyalgia caused by the pelvic trauma and my discs in back are now deteriorating from the position I have to be in to avoid pelvic pain! To cut a long story short I was referred to the top trauma hospital in Uk and given a CAT scan which finally showed damage and I am now waiting for an operation to remove the front part of pelvis. My new surgeon was horrified at the high dose I'd been prescribed and warned me the drug shortens your life and ruins what you have left of it!!! Great I just took the tablets why?? I just thought something prescribed would be safe!!! I've never taken drugs recreationally so am horrified at what they have done to me!! Two months ago I tried cold turkey and thought I would die!!! Cold sweats, sickness, crying, nightmares, leg cramps and tummy pain!! I had to beg my husband to get me my prescription ......I was sat on bathroom floor, crying, shivering and being sick clinging to his leg, begging for help!!! I've never been so scared into whole life!!i have managed to get down to 5mg a day? I'm feeling rough as I was also prescribed Topiramate and I've just stopped that without weaning. Be got major surgery coming up but I'll never take any of this again even if the pain from op kills me!!!! What will happen if I just stop my 5mg now? I've slowly weaned over two months?? I want rid!!!! Help someone I'm hoping I'm over the worst of it?? Xxx

First of all, Oxycodone has not been shown to shorten your life and the only way it ruins it is if someone becomes addicted to it and abuses it. I understand that doctor scared you, but he wasn't being quite completely honest.

The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

It is a life restoring medication for many people in pain, because it provides analgesia and enables them to lead more normal lives.

That said, at 5mgs, you can most likely stop, but may still experience some minor withdrawal effects, such as diarrhea, dizziness and nausea.
