Re: EstheticsLady (# 160) Expand Referenced Message

Again blaming the addicted who overdose. Perhaps they started out with chronic pain as yourself and when it became worse they took too many and overdosed. OR the kid in college who experiments like we ALL did and gets into that bubble now he can’t come out... overdoses. Stop blaming the kids who are addicted through no fault of their own.. adults included. It is the problem of Big Pharma and I’m sure you read up on the Sackler family who doesn’t give a rats ass about anyone..they are the makers of OxyContin and knew about this from the beginning. Also the AMA aka The American Medical Association is Also to blame. Kids get them on the streets... FROM DEALERS. Why not blame THE DEALER? They are predators preying on our youth. I don’t care I’m tired of people blaming the kids who are addicted. As if they want to be. I know adults who are addicted and I don’t look at them any way or another. I know what pain feels like and I can see why addiction happens. Some people just can’t deal with the fact maybe your doctor doesn’t want to give them to you because you’re the one (not you, a generalization), that has a problem.

Re: EstheticsLady (# 160) Expand Referenced Message

When people who are addicted to opioids make the difficult decision to quit, the last thing they need to face are barriers to treatment.

Yet, a new "secret shopper" study suggests most addicts seeking a prescription for buprenorphine -- which helps people stop using opioids -- would have trouble even getting an appointment with a doctor qualified to dispense the drug.

When researchers called doctors' offices posing as addicts who wanted to get a prescription for buprenorphine so they could stop using heroin, 46% of those who said they had Medicaid were denied an appointment, while 38% of those who said they would pay in cash were turned away.

"When people are seeking treatment, you want to make it as easy as possible. But our study showed you have to be quite persistent. That can be tough and might lead to them giving up," said study senior author Dr. Michael Barnett. He's an assistant professor of health policy and management at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in Boston. And the story goes on to say these doctors are not helping the addicted kids and adults. They don’t give a s*** about them. So the crisis is the DOCTORS, not the addicts.

Re: Bella (# 161) Expand Referenced Message

These illegal drug addicts and the pill mills they went to run by unscrupulous doctors just in it for as much money they could get, and the pharmaceutical companies that were selling and shipping directly to these doctor's 'pain management offices are all to blame!

I have to say I went once at the end when I didn't have a regular doctor, right before I finally got my SSD. I saw fit, strong young men sitting in the waiting room, clearly nothing wrong with them, bragging about how he just got the doctor to raise his Oxycontin scrip by 60#, to a total of 180# for one month. I only got 30 Oxy, enough for migraines and back pain, breakthrough, and my usual Lorcet and Diazepam. I never went back... it just didn't seem right. There was a line down the sidewalk, an armed security guard... all I needed was an MRI from the last year... the doc found the ailments... then prescribed pretty much what the individual asked for. It wasn't long after that, was the start of all the busts of those places...

But, now, because of that, we pain patients who go to legitimate doctors are cut off as well. I had finally got my disability and was able to go to my doctor again... but then the pharmacies wouldn't let me have the Dorms I had been taking one a night for years... took the Lorcet as we knew it off the market, also been taking for over two decades, put on Percocet, but made me sleepy during the day, and am my Mom's caregiver, so went down to Norco... be g mistake... now only have Tylenol 3 because I don't want to have to drive miles and miles and drag Mom with for those as well as doctor appointments and probably asked to do physical therapy as well as mental health...

I don't have the time, energy for me much less Mom to take her with everywhere, much less the inclination. Not to mention being on Medicaid, the pain management places look down on the individual, still don't want to give the pain management came for without jumping thru hoops...
Is it worth it? No... and I should not have to go through it to live a pain-free, happy life...

Why are all the powers that be causing all the bs keeping us from medication we have taken legally and not abused, for years. We didn't have a problem... it wasn't us! Yet I had to cold turkey off everything, no weaning, no substitute... just there one month, gone the next!!! : (

I have been on Fentanyl patches for 18 years taking 100 mgs daily. Now this inaccurate opioid witch hunt has caused me extreme and inexcusable pain. I am not irresponsible in my usage and have gone through appellate judges to obtain the medication at the rate my body needs for extremely painful back problems. This undue hardship is unbelievable and I do not think the statistics warranting the pullback are accurate. I cannot believe anyone has died from Fentanyl patches - I do not mix with any substances. Where is your petition? I will sign it!

I was taken off my Norco 10/325 last year. I read on here to try kratom powder. Red vein kratom for pain, white kratom for energy. It works but doesn't last long. It's better than anything I have tried. Some make the tea but it works faster taking powder. I wash it down with coffee every morning and it gets me going. I am 62 yrs old with a lot of chronic pain. Good luck.

Re: Bella (# 161) Expand Referenced Message

Again bella, kudos for sticking up for the kids, I'm 59 and was one who started out with real pain and went to pain management too..got addiction to pain pills and now on buprenorphine. What people need to do is be more knowledgeable on what they say when it comes to addiction...so thanks for sticking up for people young and older like me who can either get addicted or not....then most are just dependent on their medications to live a quality life..I live in southwest Florida when the pain management clinics were popping up everywhere....and I am sorry for your loss

THE WITCH HUNT AGAINST DOCTORS PRESCRIBING FENTANYL PATCHES IS CRAZY. NO DOCTOR IS RECKLESS IN PRESCRIBING, THE PATCHES TAKE MANY HOURS TO BECOME GRADUALLY EFFECTIVE AND CANNOT UNDERSTAND HOW SOMEONE OVERDOSES FROM THE MEDICATION. IF THEY MIX MEDS, THEY ARE SUICIDAL! DON'T PUNISH US! THOSE OF US WHO HAVE BODIES THAT PROCESS THIS MEDICATION QUICKLY - IT IS OUT OF OUR SYSTEMS IN 36 HOURS. I HAVE BEEN ON FENTANYL FOR 17 YEARS AND REDUCED DOSAGE AS BEST I COULD. HAVE SPENT 4 MONTHS TRYING TO FIND A NEW DOCTOR TO PRESCRIBE. PAIN GETS UNBEARABLE AND HAVE BEEN IN HOSPITAL FOR WITHDRAWAL COMPLICATIONS. STILL NO DOCTOR WILL PRESCRIBE THE LEVEL I NEED - AND IT IS NOT A CHOICE. IT SIMPLY IS. I NEED TO FUNCTION. I AM NOT JOYPOPPING PATCHES!

Re: Charlene (# 172) Expand Referenced Message

Thank you Charlene. I feel sorry not for just the kids. (I call them kids and I’m a bit older than you.). But for all who are addicted not by their own fault either. I live in a state where there is really no help, and if there is they keep you for 3 days and/or you just sign yourself out. From what I have witnessed or heard withdrawals are like death. In fact 95% of kids can’t take it. They would rather be dead than go through this. I understand. I’ve never experienced it but I get it. It’s also a mood lifter and there are many people who are depressed in this day and age. But to blame addicts does not make any sense to me. No dealers no addicts. Not in the cases of the people who live with chronic pain. its the DOCTORS who are at fault and that comes from the AMA who are the ones cracking down. This is not a “young kid addicted problem.” Doctors don’t give them pills. Oh there are a million stories I know of parents whom I meet in the cemetery it just breaks my heart. Thanks Charlene. Thank you for sticking up for me and in previous posts as well for my nephew. He’s smiling at you right now.

I cannot get my prescription due to red tape that has had me waiting for over a week. I am weaning off fentanyl duragesic patches after 13 years at same dosage. The doctor prescribed a dose that is just starting to be made so there is not enough supply to meet demand. The pharmacy didn’t bother to tell me until 5 days had passed. They just kept saying we are ordering it. So the pharmacist recommended that the pain management doctor write 2 scripts that combined would be my new lower dosage. No one said I would need prior authorization to fill one of the scripts as it is a new dosage. So two more days have gone by and soon I will be in full blown withdrawal due to laziness of the workers at big name pharmacy (starting with a W) as well as office workers at my pain management doctors office. I am doing what I am told to do. I am complying with the new guidelines. How come no one is held responsible for getting the meds to patients on time? Looking for any suggestions here. Thank you.

If all these states were able to get medival marajuana on the ballot and get marajuana legalized fully in some states why can we not get opoids on the ballot in amounts that are therapeutic! Thats right, it is diffetent for everyone but they want us to have a one size fits all. If it was shoes, with my large size ten; everything would be too small jusy like opoids are for sooo many

Re: ROBIN SHINE (# 173) Expand Referenced Message

I understand, my situation is similar. I was always given 3 boxes of fentanyl patches because after 48 hrs I had metabolized all of the meds. I was told I had to make it to 72 hours and reduce the dosage. I can make it to 60 hrs when lucky. By the time 72 hours comes I have to wait 12 hours for relief because my body has little if any of the medication left. It’s like starting withdrawal every 48 hours. So for every 2 days of functioning, I
suffer for almost 2 days until I feel better. The patches fall off frequently due to the increased sweating and high temperatures outside. I have never abused my prescription medication. I had been on same dosage for 13 years until the doctor told me I had to reduce the amount and extend the dosage. Then my pharmacy delays filling my prescription for 10 days saying it’s out of stock and my insurance won’t cover the medicine anymore. My doctor wanted me to go to a Suboxone clinic rather than titer off slowly. I refused; besides my insurance wouldn’t cover that either.

Re: What to do (# 178) Expand Referenced Message

It does not seem right that all pain patients are being given the same doses. Everyone metabolizes medication at different rates. We are being treated with a one size fits all fixed amount. Additionally the amounts are decreased with each visit. Soon we will have all pain patients without medication and no longer able to function or enjoy a decent quality of life. I was on the same dosage of medication for 13 years and now I am unable to work because the pain is returning and every third day I start withdrawal symptoms. Not to mention how it affects thinking and mood! No one is considering the depression that will set in. The doctors should be fighting back as well because they are being questioned for each script written so they are turning their backs on their patients needs. One day in the not distant future pain management won’t even be a specialty. They paid for many years of education and should be able to decide what is best for each patient on an individualized basis.
