Help I Need Advice Anyone Who Gets Prescribed Opiates Please Help Would Be Appreciated
UpdatedHi I appreciate anyone taking the time to read this I need honest good advice. No lectures or anything off topic please just good advice. I was prescribed Oxycodone 30mg instant release for years everyone knows them the famous "Blues" I was on them for about 4 years. They were easy to get in Florida I was working there and New Jersey back and forth. I got them from the typical type place see you for 5 min and write you a script. When I lost my health insurance a year ago I got off them. I was taking about 6-7 30mg pills a day. For the last year it has been horrible. My knee and back pain are terrible and I also have tremendous feet pain. My last job caused a lot of the issue. In the last year I have not been able to exercise or do physical activity as much. It's caused me to put on 25pds and blood pressure go up. Also has effected my day to day life at work and unfortunately intimate life at home with my wife because of pain and tiredness. I realize I need the meds and I'm willing to do whatever a doctor needs to get a script. I'll get MRI, Physical Therapy whatever red tape I need to cut through. My question is I am back on health insurance now. I found a doctor who has a decent reputation for writing pain meds. He is not a pill mill , but he will write them relatively easy for todays standard. I am going in with the premise of moving back to town recently which is true. I want to establish him as my primary doctor, but also I know he has experience with sports medicine so I also told the receptionist I am having severe back ,knee, feet pain and would like him to look at that as well. Now this is where anyone who get opiates prescribed to them can help me out. What should be my approach at the appointment. Should I ask for them ? Should I play it down and tell him I'm willing to do MRI, Therapy , etc whatever it takes, but need the meds. Should I give the sob story of the weight gain, lack of exercise , issues at home with intimacy with wife, etc. What should be my plan to get him to write me a script. Also should I tell him I have taken 30mg Oxy's in the past or should I play it down to an extended release pill or Vicodin something less restricted. I need a game plan. Remember as I said the last place I went to knew why I was there and just wrote 180 oxy 30's a month no question asked. Unfortunately I now live in a different state and that DR has since retired. Any help I would appreciate. I have an Appt on Tues so I am trying to get advice fast. This is a must leave there with a script situation. Lasty below is a list of meds I have been prescribed in the past of which would be best to ask for a mention. Thanks for listening
Oxy 30's, Tramadol 50mg, Soma 350mg and Ambien 10mg

Tell him exactly what you were prescribed, that it worked for you. Don't mention you want to be back on it for any other reason than the pain. I know from experience. Say thats what worked, and that you're willing to release your records from your previous doctor to him!
Tramadol 200mg, Klonopin 2mg, Ambien 10mg. 20 y/o.
Hi. I am truely sorry for pain & your trouble. I take 10 mg Oxycodone 4 times s day. I also get steroid inj's. in the basecof my neck in sets of 3 with several months in between. I also take Seroquel & Elavil for sleep as well as Valiums & other meds. So that being said mentioning the meds you've listed seems perfectly acceptable to me. Besides, should your new Dr want to try you on them you'll be able to tell him whether or not they worked for you. As far as the Oxycodone I wouldn't "ask" him to write you a script for them but I would tell him that they are the only medication that has relieved your pain & how your quality of life has deteriorated since you've been off them. I definately don' t recommend that you lie about anything or keep anything from him. That could very well end up not working in your favor. He may find out by requesting your prior records. The botton line is honesty is the best policy. I wish you lots of luck.
U are going through withdrawals. Every problem u are have is caused by not having the drug. He will know u are in withdrawals. He is going to recommend a detox or pain clinic. Not to be rude, I am a recovering opiate addict. There is no way a doctor that follows the basic code of Medicine is going to write u anything today. U need a crooked doctor that writes. U won't get a pain med because all the pain is caused by the withdrawal. Do yourself a favor and go to detox that uses methadone and get off the pills. U will relapse many times before getting clean, in my 20 yrs of being involved in this nightmare I have never seen a person get off the 1st time. If u have not lost everything that has any value or meaning, u will if u don't get clean. I am sorry a doctor made u an addict, u didn't get a choice. I made my choice when I started taking oc 40s and 80s way back in the day but that was my choice. Good luck
Primary Care doctors will tell you that anything stronger than Tramadol is "off the menu" and you have to pee in a cup if they prescribe those. I would tell the primary care doctor about your pain issues and ask for a pain management referral as well as physical therapy so you can get to a place where you are able to exercise. A pain management doctor can give you inj's. (epidural) or whatever you need to relieve the pain for longer periods without the opioids. They will usually prescribe opioids for between inj's. as well. You WILL have to sign a contract as well as go in once a month for follow up visits. Expect a U/A the first visit and then every 6 months or more after that. IF you FAIL a U/A they will fire you as a patient and no pain management doctor will see you after that. Good Luck.
