The pain management specialist will really know how to help you, you won't have to come up with any medications to suggest. They'll know what's successful at treating the pain you are suffering from and how best to work with you to help you. That's why they're considered specialists.

In most cases, it requires a long acting time released medications, such as Oxycontin and a regular or instant release such as OxyIR for break through pain.
The Vicodin does successfully help some people, but just like any other medication, it isn't effective for everyone that tries it.
How did the visit go?
I have been dealing with fibro plus many other pain issues since1998. The only relief I've is from Topiramate 25MG twice day, Tramadol 50-100MG every 6-8 hours as needed for pain, Tizanidine 4MG, Two pills at night and 1 pill twice a day as needed, I also self-admin 1000mc of Vit B12 monthly plus a high grade vitamin. Cut out the simple carbs, eat lots of heathy veggies, and lean protein. Gentle exercises helps as well...Good luck. ONE MEDCATION TO STAY WAY FROM IS LYRICA. PLEASE RESEACH IT. IMO: IT'S ON DANGEROUS MED!!!!
I have Fibro as well and have found much relief with Savella (some people do have side effects, I however am a lucky one that has not), and Neurontin. I also use Flexeril, and Lortab for really bad days when the meds just aren't helping like I need them to. I wish you luck, because I know how it feels to suffer from this and feel like your life has been taken away. I always try and stay positive, which is hard to do on some days. And move as much as possible, the more I sit the worse my pain is.
This is not related to your question but, have you read any articles about the side effects of gluten? I go to a Homeopathic Dr. Since I cut all forms of gluten out of my diet my pain has subsided 80%. I went with mainstream medicine, pain clinics, etc for many years. Then I discovered how much of what I ate had to do with the health of my neurological system.
Pamela has a great suggestion, gluten makes inflammation, and that makes fibro. If that don't help after several weeks, then try furinal with codeine, , it helps my fibro, migraines, bursitis, a lot of other pain to. It has 4 ingredients in it and the only thing for pain I can take because of the mixture of things in it.
