Heart Rate Return After Stopping Bystolic
UpdatedAfter taking first atenolol and then bystolic for several years, I've now been switched from the beta blocker to amlodipine. My cardiologist told me not to taper down the bystolic, just switch to the cc blocker. Today is day 3 (my last dose of bystolic was Saturday) and my resting heart rate is still ranging from about 49-55, even with coffee. How long should it take until the heart rate recovers to a more normal level?

It may take a week, or two, although the Amlodipine could also lower your heart rate, as well as your blood pressure. The NIH lists its other typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension.
Has there been any change? Are you on any other medications?
I'm a 68 y/o female on multiple Anti-Hypertensives (Clonidine tts, Nifedipine, Losartan-Hctz and
Labetalol) with controlled BP during the day but elevates overnight to 150-180 over 70-90 with HR 48-60. Dr wants to discontinue Labetalol & start me on Bystolic 10 mg/day. I’m afraid to start for fear of my HR dropping to a serious level since it’s already low to start. What else can I do?
