Headache 4 Days After Rx Ran Out.

Hi there. I have been on Lisinopril 5mg PO QD for almost a year now. My prescription ran out and I went 4 days without it before I had the chance to get it refilled. After the second day, I started to notice a dull headache. Could going off such a low dose for such a short period of time cause headaches?

Hello, Sunshine! How are you doing? Has there been any change?

Yes, you may experience headaches, when you abruptly stop taking such a medication, according to FDA reports. You may also experience nausea, diarrhea, and rebound high blood pressure and elevated heart rate.

Thus, it is always best to make sure that you don't run out, by picking up your prescription a day, or two ahead of time. If you find you have no refills, please call your doctor's office, in advance, since the elevated heart rate and blood pressure could put you in danger.

Is there anything else I can help with?
