I have a bottle of penicillin 500 mg that expires 3/16/2016 that i left in my car for months. I went to use it and it had a funny odor when i opened the bottle..... and when i take them I can smell the odor thru my nose. Have the pills went bad..?

Pills don't usually tend to go bad, so to speak, they lose effectiveness.
And actually, Penicillin does normally have an odor, which can be quite awful.
The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.
However, if they have lost effectiveness, if can create the risk of your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria, so it would be best to dispose of them and see your doctor for a new prescription.
