Has Opiate Use Permanently Ruined My Enjoyment Of Alcohol?! (Top voted first)
UpdatedHi there,
I have a strange question that i cant find the answer for. I took Tramadol/Zydol for around 7 months for back pain, ever since i stopped taking it i cannot get the effects of alcohol - e.g the buzz, euphoria.
Please note it is NOT a tolerance issue. I can drink and drink until im sick and not feel anything. (it was just to evaluate how much i could drink/prove it wasn't tolerance)
I have been in abstinence from Tramadol for about a year now. I'm really worried that I'm permanently damaged. Any help or ideas why this is happening?
Thank you

Hello, Blaine! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem you're having.
It's hard to say, the use of medications, as well as time causes our bodies to change, so it may be due to the medications you took, or just a natural change as you age.
The FDA classifies this medication as an opiate, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
However, you could still suffer alcohol poisoning, so I strongly urge you to not keep trying to get those feelings back by drinking more as you may make yourself severely ill.
Are you on any other medications?
Thank you for the reply.
the medication has definitely causes this issue. i was fine before i ever took tramadol.
no im not taking any other medication. i have now been clean off tramadol for 17 months
i know the brain can recover from drug use, but im worried its permanent damage?!
