Has Anyone Used Topamax For Back Pain?

Has anyone ever heard of using this med for back pain? Or only taking it after 6:00pm AND then not being able to eat after taking it?

It made me have severe back and chest arm shoulder pain at lowest dose even 25mg.

Topamax is often used for anti-migraine, weight loss, nerve pain, depression, and some other things that they find it isn't necessarily FDA approved for... which BTW, often happens with medications. Originally this was just for migraines. I wanted this med because I had neuropathy and Neurontin (Gabapentin) was making me gain weight. One thing is Drs often do not prescribe it as a weight loss med alone. They will prescribe it in conjunction with something like a low dose Phentermine (Not usually covered by insurance). Going back to the original question - Topamax for back pain - Well, it does nothing for me at 200mg BID (Twice daily).

my mother was prescribed this for back pain and suffered a fatal aneurysm that i think was a result. do not take this drug. DO NOT. it is not good. she lost an unhealthy amount of weight and was not herself. this drug is dangerous.

I have been taking Topamax for back pain for 10 months now. It has been a miracle. I have had 2 back surgeries for a ruptured L5-S1 disc and now have permanent scar tissue on the spinal cord, constant pain. With the Topamax I have days I'm nearly pain free. I take 100mg AM and another 100mg PM, I lost about 20 pounds the first month or two but plateau'd have a decent appetite now, but don't have the cravings for sweets like I used too. I don't even miss my Soda's any more :) I can deal with out fizzy drinks to have no more back pain.

I've been on Topamax for over 6mo now. started out 25mg, now up to 150mg q day. I have Migraines, and severe back pains. And it helped for both. I love the way it has helped with my back. I thought I was always going to have to live with back pain. I lost some wt. not alot. I do have the twitch below one eye. No other side effects.

I've been on Topamax for 3 days for sciatica associated with 5 herneated discs in the lumbar region,,,,,

for the first time in over a year, I have NO sciatica. Amazing.

I had been using Topamax for sever cronic tension headaches. Don't recall loosing any weight but I do recall feeling dopey and a lot slower than the average. I began to slure my words after about two months of use so I immediately stopped taking it.

I have taken this before,but can not remember what it looks like. shape color, or markings would help. found some loss pills and cant remember. please help

I dont know the dr. uped me to 100mg a day and it sucks first i look like a twig at 59 and a pretty great build its looking silly ya know and the response is i know this sounds silly but i have had a headache for 2 weeks straight i dont know if its from the topamax or what but i think it may be sinus related its in my front lobal area and under my eyes dont know weird its supposed to take away headaches ya know so argggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg thanks shelly muah peace

Yes i do take this medication for back pain and for nerve related pain in the back and it works well for me i do eat with this medication also before i take my medication i lost a little weight but not much this medication has helped me alot since i had back surgery but i dont know for people who havent had surgery i know that quite a few of people who i have got to know through a web group site who have sufferd from spinal cord damage do take topomax and it has helped them alot in coping with pain.
Other medications hasnt seemed to work for them either and some people it hasnt worked for.
All i can say is that it worked well for me but there is side effects with every medication like it says on the packets .
All you can do is give it ago and see if it suits you ,this is what we have to do when suffering with terrible pains i have tried many medications to find something to help me and many have not worked till i found a website called

I have been taking topmax for nerve damage due to failed back surgery i have been taking this for just over 12months and this has worked WONDERS for me.I have lost a little weight taking this medication but not a massive amout at all.I had a little tingling in my fingers to start and that worse off in a few weeks but that was only side effect i had.I was taking gabapnetin for along time and was on a very strong dose which didnt do much for me except make me very fat..loose memory and make me very depressed and didnt sure the pain,I am also in a group called ces group for people with back problems i found on the internet and alot of people on there was taking topomax so i thought i would give it ago and im glad i did becouse i was in so much pain before i didnt know where to turn,but everyone reacts to medication diffrent but all i can say is it worked very well for my nerve damage on my spinal cord.

I took topamax for weight loss and I lost some weight but gained a ton back not to mention It made me loopy and I crashed my car twice

NO I TAKE IT STRICKLEY FOR A SEIZURE DISORDER THATS ALL AND IT MAKES YOU LOOSE ALOT OF WEIGHT SO DONT BUY ALOT OF FOOD FOR A WHILE SORRY! BUT AS FOR A PAIN MEDICATION NO SORRY NOT HAPPENIN NOT ON THIS END CAUSE I HAVE BACK ISSUES AND BELIVE ME THAT DONT HELP

I have never heard of using it for back pain. I used to take Topamax for my headaches and they went away within 2 months and Topamax made me lose a lot of weight. I have a lot of back pain and Topamax never even touched the pain for my back.
