Has Pioglitazone Been Discontinued?

I was told by my drugstore, Walgreens, that Pioglitazone has been discontinued. I wanted to find out if all drug companies have discontinued it or just one or two?

You can look at the FDA drug shortage web page for that information.

After you search by the name of the medication it will list the various manufacturers and you can expand each field to see if they have a shortage, if they’ve said why, or if it has been discontinued.

It’s not as up to date as the database the pharmacists use:
https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/drugshortages/default.cfm

But I don’t know if the pharmacist one tells you if the companies have discontinued making the medication or not. I know the FDA drug shortage database does.

It was withdrawn in France and Germany in 2011. I know the patent expires in July 2026. It seems it has not been discontinued in the U.S.
