Harvoni Side Effects (Page 8)
UpdatedI have been taking Harvoni for 3 months now and am having nerve pain in my legs and lower back pain. Is anyone else taking Harvoni having any of these same side effects as me? Please help if you are able. Thank you
Thanks, New Day. I have 1a also. Not sure if it is relevant, but could be. CHep Free, did you comment on a forum about a year ago about an FDA report? If so, I just sent you an email. If not, it's quite a coincidence. I did read that Harvoni was fast tracked by the FDA, so that is unsettling. I don't think any drug should ever be fast tracked.
That's true the ACLU had to request via FOA what the real results were of trials.
Only 650 ppl were used that not a lot. In addition I would bet that most were withe dual diagnosed HIV-hep C so probably quite ill. Most ppl go into trial when it's the only game in town aka out of aces. The FDA should do follow up once drug is approved but you said it, they push it through because it's a $$ maker. In addition the "subjects" or reason for the price gauging is research. These ppl were the research! Let's continue to stay connected, report any changes positive or negative and best wishes for good health to all.
I started having joint pain right before i was put on harvoni, the docs thought it could be caused from the hepc. My inflamation profile was extremely high. I took harvoni and cleared it. 1a. anyway it made me feel like crap. 6 months out i am feeling somewhat better but having inflamation in my knees to the point of retaining fluid, hands and body pain everywhere. I know taking harvoni set me back even thou i am clear of the hep c. Thought i would feel better.
TONY: Lucky you. I would be glad to deal with some back pain in order to be able to cure my Hep C. Unfortunately I do not have $90,000 in order to save my life. So consider yourself lucky. PEACE.
You may qualify for assistance in order to obtain Harvoni. I hope you check this out and, if you qualify, remember that you had the advantage of knowing about what to expect while and after you take it. I don't think anyone on this site regrets being cured; they simply want to know when their symptoms will stop. If they suffer permanent damage, they may or not be glad they took the drug. That's totally up to them.
KKH- I sure as heck didn't have the money to pay for mine. I'm on SS but the fulfilling pharmacy applied for assistance and it cost me next to nothing.
I agree no one paid out of pkt for theirs . I have half a bottle of wasted med's and my doc as the other 2 imagine that!
JOHN357: Well I have United Healthcare, and it is crap. They want to pay for 20 percent of it, which still leaves me with over $70,000. So I guess I'm SOL. PEACE.
United health insurance is one of the worst! I work with patients and health insurance and am familiar with who's good, etc. Unfortunately, United covers the military (ex GI's).
You can get assistance based on your income. My friend paid zero.
If you are incarcerated you pay zero, that's what smells so bad. Not to be ungrateful but when certain minority's get $100,000 for treatment it just smells bad. Let's hope for the best that this is a good drug for some even though my experience was awful.
I read today they are in phase 3 trials for ppl under 18. What person under 18 has hep C? Don't you think they should wait and C? Give it a few years before you are so quick to put children on it.
JANE: So what do you think about Kaiser? I have insurance through my spouse, who works for the State of Colorado. The only two there are to choose from are United and Kaiser.
Babies can contract Hep C from their mothers in utero. Like HIV, the virus transmits through the blood to the fetus. Mothers with HIV can now take AZT and prohibit the virus from invading the fetus. Prisoners are most likely treated in order to stop the spread of the virus; Hep C causes liver cancer and it's far cheaper for the state to pay for the treatment rather than a liver transplant or liver cancer.
Not so lucky for some people that was just 3 months after starting on that . I do know because Tony is my husband that he has now been off of what I call the poison for a year now. Not just back pain my friend but. He now has anemia, nerve damage in the legs and now neck, his eye sight is so bad he can't drive, platelets are dangerously low, insomnia , and nausea but worst if all a low heart rate that caused his her to completely stop and if he was not taken to the hospital right away would not be with me today my friends. My husband was much better off before he started on Harvoni.
I am not familiar with any Kaiser Medical Centers in Colorado. I know quite a lot about the northern california Kaiser establishments and I believe they are quite good. Kaiser is the oldest HMO medical system that we have and are much better than they used to be. When I worked with HIV patients, Kaiser was (and still is) highly regarded. The patients like their care there. I would assume it's the same with Hepatitis C. Kaiser offers many different specialities to it's patients. One can see a therapist within the system or a dermatologist. I think they are probably better than United Health. Remember that if the Kaiser you belong to doesn't offer the speciality that you need, you may see someone at another Kaiser. I have a friend who is a Kaiser patient and she had a liver transplant at University of California Hospital where all the really good specialists practice. Good luck and please know that I'm available to answer any questions about health insurance.
JASMINE: But I assume he no longer has Hep C, correct?
JANE: Yes I am familiar with the Kaisers in Norcal. I was born in the Kaiser in Sacramento, and so was my son. I have two friends who were born in the main Kaiser in Oakland. I grew up in Norcal. I will have to see if my current addiction specialist takes Kaiser. He provides me with tablet methadone, which basically NO ONE will do. So that is something to consider. Man, I wish United was better. I would love to start the Hep C treatment, but a thousand dollars a pill is a joke. Gilead could lower the price to $50 or $100 a pill and make it up in volume of sales. I don't know those pharma execs keep a straight face when they actually say "$1000 per pill". I mean, they have to be LAUGHIING THEIR ASSES OFF!
I am so sorry to hear that. So any blood tests show any change meaning I assume he has labs while on "poison" I call it that as well but didn't want to offend. Did he become anemic or complain of changes while on treatment or did this hit him post? My point being are the docs dismissive that it's from treatment? I hope that with time things will get better. I understand the issue with eyes for me that and my heart was immediate. One other odd thing that proved there was an issue with inflamation. I had a few foot bunions the NEXT day all of them were swollen up in size literally overnight!
There was defiantly water retention or swollen joints that I could see because that's a bit external. I have lived with constant dry and painful eyes seeing spots or slight aura coming on rather disturbing. I hope all this passes I can't imagine if I was still on this yet others have zero sides I don't get it.
Do his docs validate that it's resulted from Harvoni or play dumb? I wonder if it's because they don't know or they don't believe us.
Thank you for understanding everything yes the labs showed a decline and very abnormal and took forever to get a referral to a hematologist so hopefully it will help. Every time he went to his GI doctor and complained about side effects and concerns during the entire 6 months of treatment and also the primary doctor it was always ignored and dismissed. Both doctors would never blame on the Harvoni . Yes the poison pill did kill the virus and we are both very grateful. The one thing I know is that he feels they kept him on it way too long. No matter what he told to any doctor about concerns of side effects he was having they would just keep telling him to keep taking it . Now I am so scared because he was in the hospital for a week after slow heart rate which caused his heart to stop completely and I THANK GOD That they had put him in the ICU right away and was able to get his heart going again . So thank you all for sharing your side effectts because it helps so much to know others are going through the same thing . That is what this is all about to help each other to know we are all not alone. GOD BLESS ALL
I just finished my 3 months of Harvoni treatment. Started having excruciating sharp pain in knee joint. It comes in an attack and leaves in about 10 or 20 seconds. I just scream. Feels like a knife just stabbed me. Please not something else going wrong!
