Yes, unless a medication is a time released formulation, or you've been given specific instructions not to do so.

When something is time released, cutting or breaking it could cause you to receive to much of the medication at once and there are some medications that are specially coated to prevent damage to the esophagus and stomach, which would be defeated by breaking/cutting the tablet.
