Hydrocodone 10-500 Which Brand Is Better?

I have been on these pills for over 10 yrs. now. I have taken all different kinds of brands.
To me they all have a different effect on the pain. But I have noticed that the blue Watson 540's have
a better effect on the pain . I have talked to the pharmacist's about this and they say there is no difference in any of them

The pharmacists don't want to freak anyone out and the differences aren't significant enough to affect most people that take any given medication….

But yes, there can be slight fluctuations in generic medications that can affect some people. They are allowed to differ from the name brand in the amount of the active ingredients by as much as plus or minus 20%, the FDA considers this an acceptable therapeutic window and, when it comes to most medications, that only amounts to fractions of a milligram in the dosing.

The generics are also not required to measure against each other, so one of them can be different than the next. One manufacturer may be very precise and have the exact amounts of the active ingredients, but another manufacture may be a little low in it.

Thus, someone that has been used to taking any given one for a long period of time, or who abruptly switches from the name brand to a generic or from one generic to another may experience differences, such as what you've described.

Imagine it this way, say last month your pharmacy gave you one generic that was a little on the low side, you may have noticed it not working as well, but it still had some effect and your body will usually adjust after a week or so, without major problems as long as it was still close…. then the following month you were given the Watson one that you prefer and maybe it's a little higher in the amount of the active ingredients… I'm sure you can see where I'm going and why you may be noticing these efficacy differences.

Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do about it. The only recourse you have is to talk to your doctor about prescribing it with the brand being necessary, to try to avoid such fluctuations in the future.
