I live in near Aurora,IL. PLEASE SOMEONE HAS TO KNOW A DR. AROUND AURORA, IL OR W/IN 10 MILES OR SO THAT WILL REALIZE I'M NOT JUST TYING TO GET HIGH. I'VE TRIED AT LEAST 7 OR 8 DIFFERENT MEDS. THE NORCO10'S OR EVEN STRONGER (FEWER PER DAY), THAT DOESN'T MESS WITH MY STOMACH (NORCO DOESN'T, IT JUST TAKES AWAY THE PAIN), I'VE TRIED ALL THE OTHER NON NARCOTIC AND THEY DO NOT WORK OR I FEEL LIKE A WACK FROM DRUGS LIKE LYRICA. ***IF YOU CARE TO READ THE REST OF MY STORY****I have been an athlete all my life and just completed 2 Ironman Races 08' & 09' (2.4mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run) and 2 months after, no back pain, but extreme nerve/sciatic pain. I've had 7 injections in my spine and surgery, still have SAME pain! My surgeon wants to cut me, I and my wife especially, don't want surgery. He knew this, we'd give it 6 months of PT, then decide. He, out of the blue, sends me to a Pain "Management" "Dr." that thinks we must do more injections (had 7, didn't work), is pushing his surgeon on me (told him I have one) and insists that i only need 5 Norco 10/325 a day, when I was on 8 (2 pills 4 x's day) But my surgeon doesn't want to help me anymore because, he says, is not a pain specialist (BS, his mngr said we don't want the responsibility. I want a Dr. around Aurora IL that will give me pain med to help me be at work and my kids athletic events. I'm in pain even w 5 a day and eating Ibu's like candy. They know this, but are concerned about my liver-BS! I know there has to be an empathetic Dr. around here. I have spent $1000's on MRI's and its always the same L5S1 reherniated laying on the nerve root. I know I am a client to these guys, NOT a patient. Last weeks MRI shows some submission of the disc- my Phys Ther., knows if I keep working at it it will go away-dissolve they say. PLEASE ENLIGHTEN ME. It's gotten so bad that I am stressed out that he will stop the 5 a day, I'm doing searches online looking for me meds anyway I can get them, when I have good insurance. This is ridiculous. Please help. Sciatic pain BURNS from your butt all the way to your ankle, and I'm a jerk in pain...period.

That is BS. If you are in SOOOOO much pain to the point where you are willing to do anything to make it go away, you would be begging for a surgery! I know this because I had 3 microdiscectomies on three different levels. You just want to mask the pain and feel the euphoric effects of the norco. You said you are worried about your liver, well norco is even more toxic at the rate you're taking it. Get the surgery and get off the pills.
Hello, I'm so sorry to hear of your constant pain. I had the same thing happen to me and the said that they needed to cut. I said no and a friend of mine referred me to a Chiropractor. It helped me so much I went back to school and became one. I was a Carpenter with a degree in English and dunking the basketball one day and the next I couldn't even get out of bed. After going to the Chiropractor for one visit I felt 80% better and the pain was going from my back all the way down to my heel and big toe. L5/S1. I have been a Chiropractor for 3 years now and have helped countless people like yourself with disc herniations and radiating pain. I have 3 by the way. You can listen to all the ignorant people that talk negative about Chiropractors or you could go to one and feel the difference almkst immediately. Chiropractic is the safest form of healthcare in all of America and it is very effective. I hope you give it a try. It saved my life because I was becoming addicted to the pain killers. Not only did it save my life but I have saved over 100 people from surgery by becoming a Chiropractor.
Go to a chiropractor. You'll be amazed at how quickly sciatica pain can be eliminated.
Hi Tim,
I'm sorry to hear about the intense pain you've been trying to cope with. I noticed you posted the thread this past December. Have you found a good doctor in your area yet?
If not, listed below are a couple websites specific to locating pain management doctors in a given area. All you have to do is input your city or zip code for narrowed results:
{link removed because site no longer exists}
You can give this other page a try too if you come up with different results for some reason or another:
wellness.com/find/pain%20management%20specialist
Many of the results you find (in one or both of the links above) also list a phone number for that specific doctor; I'd consider calling up a number of them to see if they are accepting new patients; some aren't, but most usually are.
Unfortunately, no one can know ahead of time what a doctor is or is not willing to prescribe, as that is based on the doctor's discretion and not on someone else's appointment. Some advice I can give you is to not specifically ask for any 'specific medication' when you see a new doctor. Make sure to transfer or take a copy of all your medical records with you. Then, the best approach is to discuss up front and honestly what has or hasn't worked for you in the past. Most doctors will take it under consideration and hear you out if they know it's worked for you without causing any problems or severe side effects.
I hope this information helps!
