Griseofulvin Side Effects

The day after I started taking Griseofulvin for fungal infection of the nails, I had a sore throat and thick green phlegm in the morning. 8 days later I still have a sore throat on and off, mainly in the morning, sometimes in the evening and green phlegm in the morning. Is this coincidence?

I did wonder if it was the effect of an anti-fungicide on a low level fungal infection in the lungs and or nasal passages, (i.e. killing off some fungal infection and the phlegm being dead cells, etc). I do get lung infections easily and should use a mask when I garden especially when using compost, as I notice issues often after that. Is this a possibility?

Hello, Juliet! How are you? I'm sorry about the problems that you've had.

Green phlegm like that is actually considered a sign of a bacterial infection, going by the symptoms on WebMD. Thus, I'm more inclined to think that it is most likely coincidence that it occurred, after you started taking this medication.

You probably need a regular antibiotic, too. Typical side effects for antibiotics may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.

Have you ever had strep throat? Or a sinus infection?
