Government Policy On Alternative Means Of Obtaining Treatment
UpdatedThis was posted in the comments beneath a news article announcing an increase in raids and shut downs of Medical Marijuana Clinics and Pharmacies serving Online Medical Sites. It was posted as a direct reply to a previous comment stating that such shut downs unfairly punished people without insurance or with other obstacles to using the conventional medical system.
"....I too have no insurance. I lost it when I lost my job after a serious industrial accident that happened ON the job. So many people think all must be well in such a situation with workcomp and workplace insurance, but as I found out you can end up signed off in short order by WC, legally unhireable, without insurance and still not eligible for long term disability or SSI, as there are wide cracks in our gov't system. The ability to order the NON narcotic medication (the same one that I had been prescribed for three years by an MD when I still had WC coverage) without paying for Dr. visits (which obviously I cannot afford to do) was the only treatment I had. Now that is gone too, and I somehow am missing the part where this stops the murderous drug cartels that are terrorizing some countries, offers any real help to the addicted - either to legal or illegal substances, cuts down on substance abuse related crime - anything from theft to fund a habit to driving under the influence (nope, no one is raiding liquor stores yet) helps eliminate gang violence stemming from rivalries over drug territory, educates kids, Drs, parents, patients, teachers or the guy down the street about anything beneficial to help us live wisely and well in a drug and medication filled world... I could go on, but I hope the point is made. There is no "War on Drugs" - there is just a huge amount of wasteful misguided activity that harms more than it helps and exists primarily to boost particular political agendas. It is so easy, after all, to play on the misinformation and fear surrounding the subject, that it makes a great kite on which to fly over policies that profit the few, but on the ground, cost the many and make no sense."
I both agree and disagree with certain aspects of it but thought it was well written for the point it was trying to make, Any comments, thoughts, opinions? (on the article or on the entire subject of the government's dealing with issues that affect the individuals ability to make their own choices in health and medical treatment.)

Well all I can say is amen to the entire article. What's to disagree with? The so called 'war on drugs' is one of the worst money wasting, useless policies we have ever come up with. It does little or nothing to stop real criminal behavior and makes criminals out of people who never were. Not even going to start about the attitude it engenders in the government against personal privacy or individual choice!
