Going To A New Doctor And Need Advice Asap

Hi thanks for taking the time to read this and any advice would be helpful asap. I am going to a new doctor tomorrow. I have heard he is willing to prescribe pain killers and has to some patients, but definitely not a place where he does to every patient. I used to be on 30mg oxycodone and 50mg Tramadol as well as Soma for my back, knees, feet and other bad pain. I went off health insurance a year ago and have not been able to get my meds. My quality of life has went downhill bad. I have put on weight and my blood pressure went up. Also exercising minimally has become difficult as has performing my work and being intimate at home with spouse. I need to get back on these meds asap. I am wondering from some experienced people what I should say tomorrow or how I should approach the situation. I again have health insurance which is allowing my to return to a new doctor and get meds if prescribed. I just moved from a different state so he is a completely new doctor. My old doctor is retired and outta state. I won't be able to go in there with MRI's and stuff, but I am willing to do whatever he needs MRI, Xray or physical therapy as long as he writes me the meds I will do whatever. Please any help on what I should say tomorrow or how to approach would be soooo helpful.

Hi Spartan,

Usually when it comes to any doctor, it's best to just be yourself and openly/honestly answer any questions they have regarding your condition and level of pain. I believe they are trained to read people very well and can probably determine if you're hiding something emotionally or not telling them the full truth. So in that sense you just want to go with the flow and work closely with them until they gain a sense of trust from you as a patient.

From that point on you can probably have a little more persuasion in how you influence their decision making. However the doctor should be able to determine what might be best based on your medical records and evaluation. This includes any medications you've taken in the past as well.

Spartan, normaly a doc won't give anything on a first visit, your best way is to let him either ask you what has helped in the past, telling him what you want, could really work against you, Please b careful, and good luck!!

listen,,,,, honesty is the best policy !!!!! Get an emergency room and let them know your situation,,,,, rehab for the drug problem....

Hello I am in Salt Lake City Utah. I am going to be 60yrs of age, and am disabled. I am covered under Medicaid. I am a opiate patient and looking for a Dr. who can prescribe Suboxone. I prefer a private physician instead of clinic. Commuting everyday is difficult. I would be grateful if I could get a DR. in SLC Utah. Thank You.

I have 3 fixations to my left ankle and knee. I need to find dr will give 30mg oxycodone in brooklyn, queens, new york new york or bronx. I'll travel to these areas to see a dr. I also have a herniated disc in my neck and back, multiple sclerosis of my lower lumbar, carpal tunnel syndrome to both hands. I've been this way for 12yrs. My last dr was arrested in 4/2017. I need assistance bad. The fixation is sticking into my left joint and the horrific pain is too much some days I cannot stand or walk for hours. Any help will be greatly warranted. Thank u.

Try surgery. It should relieve a lot of your pain.

That is another problem with chronic pain patients. They cry about their pain, but don't have surgery to try to lower their pain level and medicine level.

I am a chronic pain sufferer and have been for 28 years. Hoping to not get on medication, I thought long and hard about surgeries. My pain was/is out of control. After years of shots and therapy, i still was unable to move. I have had back surgery, cervical surgeries, I have a spinal cord stimulator and i am still in chronic pain 24 hours a day! The days that i refuse to miss out on caused me to double my doses; running the risk of running out of meds. But when you get so tired of watching other's live their lives from the sideline is torture. I have been on 10mg Oxycodone for 6 years. I need to tell my doctor that i need an increase in my MG. I don't know how to do that. There is such an ugly stigma attached to opiates, which doesn't take into account individuals such as myself who deal with this pain day in and day out. I feel like a child when talking to my doctor. It shouldn't be that way. How do you approach the subject?

I have had 9 back surgeries, since the age of 14. Back then I was only given Tylenol 3. I would literally crawl to the bathroom, until my friend had the idea of buying me a new dish pan.

I have been diagnosed over the years with DDD, Spinal Stenosis, Facet Disease, Failed Back Syndrome, Opiate tolerance, etc.

I was on Percocet 5mg when I would throw out my back, sometimes by a sneeze. Then 13 years ago I was put on Oxycontin, and slowly went up to 80mg. The pain was now in my entire body and I had no life. I thought I needed more. I changed doctors and went on Suboxone for Pain Management; he is also my PC. If I need more, I can take more, per doctors orders.

I am totally honest with him.
